I'm finally done with my latest rifle. I took a No.4 mk2 Enfield action I bought from Numrich a few years ago and installed a McGowen barrel on it. Its about 24" long. I turned it so its about .960 at the muzzle.
I have it in a boyds laminate stock with a millet scope mount.
I refinished the metal in hot water rust bluing and homemade hot salt blueing I just started doing. The barrel is hot salt blued the receiver is hot water rust blued.
Its chambered in 38-55 win. .375 groove diameter. I already have a mold from Accurate in .377 with 2 bullet designs, one with a big flat head and one that's more pointy.
I should be able to push it a little harder than a traditional 38-55 due to the Enfield's strength.
I have yet to fire it. I am starting out with the max loads in 38-55
Does anyone have any recommendations for powder if I want more speed?
I have a 8lb jug of wc820
I also have 8lbs of 860 has anyone tried that in a big bore.
I went with 38-55 because the rim is close to the size of the .303.
.375 win is too powerful for the No.4 action.
45-70 would have required removing metal from the receiver and a different or reworked extractor.
