I think I did that back when I first started reloading, with a Lee whack-a-mole set, a can of Unique, and a box of Speer HPs.
Somewhere around the 8th or 10th box, I believe I started operating in the "savings zone".
But when I started casting and bought molds, dies, sizers and presses..... it all snowballed downhill! ;)

Now you need to shoot 'em and then start all over again! LOL As they say . . . "It's a dirty job but somebody has to do it!" Enjoy and let us know how they work!

Their a Magma 255gr bullet and I loaded 5.6gr of Red Dot just to see how they would shoot. My brother and his wife winter in AZ and return to IA in the summer and he returned with this new mold and one for his 44mag. I was pleased with the way the bullets turned out on my Mark IV caster. Going to try them in my S&W 25-5 and see how they work. Just getting into reloading the 45LC and I have been reloading 9mm,38/357,40,10mm, and 45acp for years. It was interesting to get the old Lyman T-Mag set up and producing ammunition again. Anyway it was fun to reload something that I wasn't fumbling trying to hold onto small bullets and small cases.

Looking forward to going to AZ when I retire.

that is the first caliber I cast when I started casting my own boolits. I use the Lee 452-252 SWC, but I have also used the Lee 452-200 F, and I like that one, gets more boolits per lb of alloy. Would like to try the 300 gr FN just for giggles.

45 Colt was the first set of reloading dies I ever bought for myself and the first caliber I cast. I love the cartridge and love to shoot it. Great fun. The 255gr is it's bread & butter.

On another forum a guy posted, "Why do I always run out of ammo?"
My reply was, "I cast and reload, What in the run out of ammo you speak of?".
I reload 45 Colt as well, almost to much fun to shoot.

Congrats! 45 Colt is indeed fun to load but I really enjoy shooting it. Let us know how it shoots.
I've priced 45 Colt ammo, loaded BP ammo prices make me giggle. If I didn't reload I wouldn't own a 45 Colt, couldn't afford to shoot it. But I do reload and somehow that justifies owning four revolvers and one Trapper...but look at all the money I'm saving! ;-)

45lc is the first I reloaded for also. It's a big savings. I need to start casting them now.

"Round these parts......45LC's are at least a buck a round!!!!! OMG!!!!!!! And I see people in the LGS's buying boxes of them ever week for weekend plinking. Had a friend give me 50 cases because he shoots but does not reload.

I figure I spend ~6 cents to relaod. I do not count the 18 cents for the Starline brass because I use it over and over, so it is not a $$ factor.

45LC is my favorite cal in all boolit weights.....I have them all!

I shoot them in revolvers and long guns with great success. All rounds are powder coated.....no leading! The wife loves the 300gn Lee slug out of one of my rifles. She is a dead-eye with that thing!

The 45 long colt........"The bullet that won the west!" I love the feel of a carbine in my hands and a 6 gun on my side! All 45LC. To heck with semi's!

Have fun.

Like others have mentioned, .45 Colt was the first handgun round I started reloading. Back about '88 or '89, just after I turned 21 and bought a S&W Model 25-5, which is still my favorite handgun.

Started out using Unique, and got turned off by how filthy it was. Some magazine mentioned Red Dot, and I've been using that for all .45 Colt loading for the last 20 years or so. 6.2 gr with a 250ish gr cast swc works great in all my revolvers. A bit warm, maybe over SAAMI limits, but all my .45 Colt revolvers can handle well beyond 14,000 psi loads. 850 - 925 fps depending on the revolver, easy to shoot and more accurate than I am.

I think the S&W 25-5, and the Dan Wesson 15-2 with the full shroud and rib are the best looking double action revolvers ever made. I'd love to add a 25-5 to my collection someday.

I first started reloading with the 45Colt Lee "Whack-A-Mole" (as Beagle333 put it...lol). I recently got the dies for my Lee turret press, never looking back. I load the Lee TL452-230TC that I powder coated, they shoot great on top of 5.8grs of Titegroup.
