I was reading a thread on Lubersizer heaters here a while back and it seemed to me that most of the them do not come with an off/on switch or a light to let you know that they are on. So, I thought I would see what I could come up with to fix that.

What I came up with was two units built on metal double outlet/switch boxes, one is simply an on/off switch with a light to let me know when it is on. The other is an on/off switch, a light, and a reostat to vari the heat on a Lyman lubersizer heater that has none.

I used hardware store and Radio Shack componets to build the units, I had the outlets, switches and reostat (600 watt dimmer control) left over from building my house. I have about $15 - $20 in the on/off only unit and $20 - $25 in the reostat unit. I use the on/off unit to contol the Midway heater and will use the other to control the Lyman unit when it finally gets here.

I thought about just mounting a switch and light to the Midway heater but it gets really warm when adjusted to high and the light is plastic so I thought it better to seperate the two. The only componet that is not from the hardware store is the 125 volt AC panel light that is from Radio Shack, it is the red square light on the reostat unit with the black turn knob.

I made something similar for my soldering iron, 4 square box with a duplex outlet on one half and a light dimmer (with switch) on the other I will have to dig it out.

thanks

Tom,

Sounds like the same thing as I put together. Really easy to do, I like the light because I am forgetful about turning things off. :drinks: :castmine:
