Working towards my load for my Morris 45. Underhammer, about 50 lbs, open/redfield sights. Was a bit gusty. Always a challenge w wind and open sights. Groups need to be repeated as there is so much variability but I am getting there. Shooting at 100 yards today.
Bottom row
First I varied the charge again and 85g did the best, I had already worked to 90g being close. Bottom left to right is 6 shot(12oclock hole is fouler) so group was around .5-.75" 5 shot, then 90g it opened up a bit, bit more at 95.

I also varied the ball size today. Top row, left to right is .451 .454, .457 all on Teflon 0.015. .451 did best.(same ball in charge group shots) threw one to 3 o'clock on the .451 group, other 4 are in pretty tight

Nice shooting and a very interesting rifle. Please explain the .015" Teflon for me.

It's a patch material with teflon applied to one side. I don't know how it is applied but bench gun shooters like bore size or larger balls and thick teflon patches. You have to wipe between shots with teflon. I have never used it but it must work seeing their targets.

Not bad, should hold about 1/2" 5 shot at 100. Good enough for me with irons. Was blowing a bit today, tropical storm went through yesterday and RBs move in the wind.

yes, Teflon patching. Loads are lighter than I expected in this gun. I have a slug barrel, a 62 rb barrel and a flinter in 52 as part of the set. The 62 preferred about 145 gr

any of those would have taken the heart out of a deer. good shooting

At 50lbs, I would have died if a heart attack first, lugging it to the deer!

It is fun to shoot sub moa with a open sight smokepole at the rifle range. The grumbling from the cf scoped guys is worth lugging it there!

bull, the Teflon patching is food grade Teflon sprayed on a canvas like material. I order it from minutemen. Think they are in ohio. It allows me to load very tight combos. It is quite slick. I still swab between shots for consistency tho

Nice shooting Plastikosmd! I recently picked up a Bresien barrel and action for Heavy Bench shooting managed to get a stock mounted and bubb'ed up some sight bases and had to buy some balls big enough but did get it shooting at 50 yards. Once on paper it shot very well even though the bottom 5 inches of the barrel is really eat up. I used a wad and it shoot better than expected with balls bought over the enet. Now waiting on a custom mold and hoping to get it soon as we have a three day bench match coming up in August at my home club. If it doesn't show by then I'll have to go with the store bought balls and hope?

frankly, all my lead balls are store bought. I do prefer cast over swaged. The 451 are swaged, mutter. I am working on my casting for my 2-part slugs, it is a learning process for me.

will keep my fingers crossed for you!

Time flys.
I hadn’t tried FFG as of yet so I experimented today w 90, 95 g. next up 100. Didn’t do great, groups were about 1.25” at 100.

figured I would at least post some pics of the gun and loading etc

this is an underhammer, sealed ignition 45lb or so rifle. Not my heaviest, (that would be an 80lb monster.)

this is a 3 barrel, 2 action set
