I was looking at Lee's Modern Reloading (page 549) and the only thing I could find for the 40 S&W in a 175gr lead bullet was for Accurate #2 and #7. I was looking and saw Blue Dot was the same burn rate as #7 (Acurrate Powders burn chart online). If started the same and worked up, would it be safe to use?

Lyman 4th Ed. HB lists for the Lyman #401638 175gr SWC:

Blue Dot (start) 6.9 gr @ 979 fps and (max) 8.6 gr. @ 1059 fps

Start low and work up.

I've used blue dot. For me it liked the moderate high loading to shoot clean and even out the SD and ES using a 180gr cast boolit. I've used it and HS-6 with good success with the heavier 10/40 boolits.

Thank you. I have used Red Dot, my favorite powder for the 40 S&W, but the best laid plans of mice and men........

Have used 7.5 Blue dot with very good results. FN 40S&W Clean burn with 200gr bullet. Just my load in this gun no claim as to safety in an other gun. GP
