I think I just came up with one of these. I will photograph when I can. It threw me off at first because the front seemed so slim. I was looking through some old posts, and apparently there is an Ideal chart that shows 200/165gr versions. This one does have some scribed vent lines by a previous owner, and leaves some whiskers, but it is pretty cool.

I'd like to see a photo. Sounds interesting.

OK, I was wrong. First for everything. This still weighs up at 200 grains. Just must be an original design. Too bad it was vented by a previous owner, it leaves a whisker now and again. I'm re-selling this, but I just thought it was interesting.

As you already determined, it's not a 165-gr. No.452460. The difference between the 200-gr. and 165-gr. version is that the 165-gr. is shorter, having only one lubrication groove - but the shape of the nose would be the same.

Not sure what you have there, though. What (if any) are the markings on the outside of the block?

Yes, it is marked 452460. It must just be an original design.

I guess I can mark it RARE.

You have a prime example of how boolit designs changed down the years at Ideal/Lyman.

The left hand block is un-vented, making it much earlier than the right hand block, which is vented. The LH block also shows the larger alignment pins.

I have an early mould marked 429215. It's a 205 grain round nose with a plain base. Now days, that same number will give you a gas checked 215 grain semi-wadcutter.
