You need to understand something about Sig's sight picture. Sig will tell you that they sell combat guns and therefore they use a "combat" sight picture that applies both day and night. The center of the dot, whether standard or night sights, goes in the center of the bull. This means that, if you are working with a classic bullseye target, the top of the front and rear sights winds up very high on the aiming black. This works very well for combat since you put the dot where you want the shot to land, especially under night conditions. But it also means that if you use the much more familiar center or 6 o'clock holds, you will wind up hitting low on the target.

Now, there is an adjustable sight set made by Meprolight for the classic P-series Sigs that works for all of them EXCEPT for the 229s. This is very weird because the 229s take the same non-adjustable sights as the rest of the Sig line.

Sig's sights are numbered. The 9mm and .357 Sig guns use #8 front and #8 rear, while the .40 and .45 guns use a #6 front and #8 rear. The key for Sig's sight numbers is numbers up impact up, numbers down impact down. The other piece of info you need is that the front sights raise or lower the point of impact by one inch @ 25 yards per unit change, while the rears raise or lower the point of impact by 2 inches @ 25 yards for every unit number change. Go from a #6 front to a #8 front and the point of impact goes up 2 inches @ 25 yards. Do the same thing at the rear and the point of impact goes up by 4 inches. Sig's standard sights, both front and rear can be had in steps of "1" from 5 to 10. The night sight sets go in steps of "2" and there are really only #6s and #8s available.

You can find the numbers stamped on the left dovetail flange on the front sight and I think they are stamped on the sides of the rear sights. Good luck.
