Hi:

I picked up an H&R today in .22 Hornet. It came with 800 roundsof reloads. All of the reloads are 55 grain J-Bullets.

I DO NOT KNOW THE POWDER OR THE CHARGE. I am thinking of pulling the boolitsand starting over. The gun is 10 years old. Any ideal on the barrel twist andany thoughts on reload info for both the J-Boolits and cast boolits.

I have a 37 grain mold from NOE that has never been used and was thinking aboutusing that.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Terryt

Your barrel should be 1 in 12 twist. A 37 grain bullet should do ok. For that many rounds, buy a collet puller.

I'd say pull 'em and start over. Two reasons: Mine is 1983 production, 16" twist, and will not shoot anything over 40gr. Reason #2 is personal, I NEVER shoot anyone else's handloads. GW

Thats alot of bullets to pull. And as said being reloads, do you want to risk shooting them? 55gr is a bit heavy for a hornet, makes you wonder about the original owner. Did they test the loads to make sure they do work? Or just start loading? People do it. Worked with a guy, he went to town with his progressive on a bunch of 45 ACP. Got done then found out the 1000 he had made wouldn't cycle, not a gun set up to run factory powered 230gr ball. Had to buy several springs to find one that would get those light loads to work.

Hi:

Thanks for the info.
I have decided to pull all of them just to be on the safe side.

Thanks,
