Junior Doughty, the long-time webmaster of Castbullet.com (and forum member here) has passed away.

I just got off the phone with Junior's daughter. Junior died at home, yesterday, of a heart attack. Junior was 10 years older than me, so he would have been 70 years old.

The world will be a less interesting place with Junior gone.

Visitation is Friday from 5-10 pm at Hixson Brother's in Jena, LA. Funeral will be Saturday.

RIP, Junior.

That is a shame. It was his website that got me going in casting, which led me to here. That is quite a bit of knowledge I gained from the efforts of one gentleman.
Rest easy sir, you are on a new path now.

Aw, jeez, I really liked Jr. We didn't agree politically, but he was intelligent enough to argue his point, unlike most democrats. Once we got past politics, we had a lot in common, and he had a lot of interesting things to learn. I will miss him.

any time we lose someone with real world knowledge, it becomes more apparent that somewhere that knowledge needs to be archived and never lost
I hope that someone carries on in his stead.

he had a unique vision on shooting that I really enjoyed reading about.

it is the different approaches others take that make this site an excellent resource

Thank you Jr for adding to MY knowledge base and the hours of entertaining reading.
I will miss your input.

This is the first I heard. I'm saddened to hear it. He was a big Blues fan, as I am too. I visited his website, and enjoyed his reports on the local 'joints' he enjoyed. He fought his way out of a severe health crisis in the past and was a strong and determined minded person. Yet when it is time, the Lord calls us home. I will miss him.

I talked to his sister yesterday at the wake. She lived next door to him on their family property. Told me that Junior had been feeling fine, and had been to his cardiologist the week prior, got a clean bill of health. He was complaining a little bit about the arthritis in his knees, but was otherwise fine. Then, he fell over. They called an ambulance, got him to the hospital, but his heart had given-out, and it was over. Junior was healthy and happy right up till the moment that he wasn't. If you've got to go (and we all do), that's the way to do it.

I also talked to his daughter. She's got all his usernames and passwords, and next week, she's going to start maintaining the websites and making sure that the domains still work. I know that he paid for his domains yearly, in April, so they won't go dark quickly. We've got about nine months before domain registration, and his daughter has the passwords to get it done.

We buried him this afternoon, with a wonderful tribute to his life. Family, friends and associates spoke lovingly about him and the way he touched the world from a single computer with dial-up internet access. (Yeah, he used dial-up till the last). Couple of local blues musicians showed up and provided live music during the funeral. It was a wonderful tribute to his life, and a good send-off for his family.

Will Junior's rifle with the screwdriver handle for a bolt get passed down to someone who will appreciate it?

It might behoove the 'powers that be' on this forum to contact Junior's family about this... and perhaps put "The Frugal Outdoorsman" archives under the umbrella of this forum.

Wow this is quite a shocker, I have been away and out of contact. Junior was an amazing fellow and I considered him my friend in spite of our differences. Love his Frugal Outdoorsman website, and I made a few purchases of his unique products my favorite being his saddle-ring trapper sling which will have extra special meaning now. He invited me to fish and hunt on his homestead and I wish my finances allowed such a trip, it would have been unforgetable. Rest in peace my friend, aloha a hui hou.

I am just now finding this thread.

I, like many others didn't agree with Juniors politics. Usually, if you don't agree with another mans politcs but share many other things in common then it's best to just not discuss it. In the end, both parties wind up losing.

That being said, Junior was a good one for sure. He was always willing to pitch in and help a person through whatever issue they had. I learned a few things from the man and I'm grateful for his experience and sharing.

Rest in peace Junior.

My wife knew about everybody that had an animal, dog, Kat, cow, horse, snake, bird, etc. She worked for the Vet in Jena for 20+ years.
My daughter knew his sister through the public school system. My daughter has been a fourth grade teacher for a number of years.

Man, I just recommended his "Junior Lube" to somebody on the forum today. I "met" Junior for the first time over on the H&R/NEF forum (which was discontinued years ago). He's really the one responsible for getting me interested in BPCR & reloading in general. A very interesting fellow, sad to hear of his passing.

I just joined this board today, after years of quietly reading the many Castboolit forums, trying to absorb a little of the wealth of knowledge available here. So, I was sort thinking it was a good day, since I finally joined what I had previously enjoyed only as a visitor.

And then, months after the sad fact, I learned of Junior's death and a good day rapidly darkened. He was not just a source of firearms knowledge and woods lore, but was pure pleasure as a man of words. His writings on our forums here, and elsewhere on the net, were always interesting, usually right-on-the-money, and often worth a smile. I really wish I'd known him in person, rather than just through his letters, but I'm still grateful just for that.

I have no doubt Junior's pathway to the Pearly Gates was well lubed. It's my guess he slid easily through on a film of good ol' country lard -- mixed with a few other special ingredients.

Happy trails, Junior.

My name is Kim Doughty-Ganey. I'm Junior's only child. I can't begin to put into words what everyone's kind words mean to me. I had attempted to read through these posts after Daddy died and simply couldn't make it through them. Yesterday marked the 11 month anniverserary of Daddy dying...I sat down today intent upon remembering him. I know that people sometimes feel that perhaps a quick blurb on a forum doesn't mean much, but today I can tell you that they meant the world to me. We never see our parents through the worlds' eyes...thank you for letting me in and letting me see him briefly through your memories.

I have continued to keep Daddy's website, castbullet.com active and plan to continue to do so. I make NO claims that I have a clue about reloading.....so I won't be updating the articles with my writings. I do plan to continue to offer the things he sold on the site. I find it comforting being surrounded by the screws and buttons and rivets...the labels in his handwriting make me smile as I fill the orders.

I have had issues with the deltablues.net site but am working on getting it back up and running as well.

Again, I want to thank each one of you who took the time to remember Daddy. He would have been touched.

In my humble opinion, your Dad was one of the most interesting personalities of the greater shooting/hunting community anywhere. I always enjoyed reading his comments although I must admit that, unlike others here, his political opinions totally escaped me...I don't know anything about that side of him.

When I come to this forum and look over the "unread posts" I skip most of them and then go in search of stuff specifically of interest to me. But today, when I saw your Dad's thread rise to the top again, I went right to it and read it through again. Thanks for showing up here to see us all....we miss your Dad, but not like you do.
