I just ordered a Lee .475 cal, 325 gr GC mold. I suspect the bullet will drop at 330 to 340 grains with WW's. Do any of you wheel gunners shoot this bullet? I would like to develope a 1,000 to 1,100 fps plinker load with WW 231 powder, but don't know quite where to start. I'm also planning to work up a hunting load with WW 296. This shouldn't be too bad as there's some data available. Any help would be appreciated.

I have used Unique, HS-6 and 296 but have not tried 231. I search the whole internet for you and can't find a load to start with. WW doesn't even show the .480 or .475. I still have to go through my books. If I find anything I will let you know.

I only found a couple of loads for 231. One is with the 355 gr. Oregon Trail True shot with 7.5 grs of 231.
The other is the RCBS 405 SWC with 7.5 grs. Velocities for both were 847 and 848 fps.
I hope this helps.

I got 2 of those in yesterday and cast some up.
Mine dropped at .476" OD .73" long and 323gns with WW. The nose is short at .28", but the next lube groove down is at .39" if one wanted to crimp in there. My new 475 BFR should be here this next week.
I"ll post some quickload suggestions.
480 7.5" bbl? COAL 1.555"
W231
8gns 942fps @ 18.3ksi
9gns 1011fps @ 22.7ksi
10gns 1076fps @ 27.7ksi

W296
24gns 1235fps @ 19.6ksi 96% load density
25gns 1301fps @ 22.6ksi 98%
26gns 1369fps @ 26.2ksi 102%

1.665" COAL W296
29gns 1435fps @ 26.8ksi 96%
30 gns 1496fps @ 30.6ksi 99%
31gns 1560fps @ 34.4ksi 102%

Remember not load data, just a simulation, but it works pretty good for me in the 44, 45, 454.
I am planning on milling one of the 325gn molds down to remove the gas check shank and get a 280gn bullet for plinkers.
