Howdy all,
Lurking for some time and decided to take the plunge. Went to ebay and bought Lee Boolit molds in .314 and .323.
Lee sizing dies in .311 and went to Lee precision and got a custom .321. 30 and 32 cal aluminum gas checks. Lead melter from Amazon.
8.15x46R (.318)
8x57IR (.318)
32 Remington
8x57I Commission rifle carbine sporter and Commission rifle

Multiple Mosins, Argentine 1891 mountain and cavalry carbines, Indonesian M95 in 7.7 Japanese.. etc.

Rifles all sitting and collecting dust because no reduced loads. Can't wait.

Make sure to slug the bores of your guns. My MNs and 7.7 japs have bore from .313" to .315". Also 8 X 57 brass works great for the 7.7 X 58 Jap. I use a vibrating engraver to etch out the 8 X 57 on the case so I can tell at a glance that it is reformed.
My 2 1891s are a little smaller.

I'm still waiting for the part of this stinking hobby where I start saving money.

You have to spend the money to save, so you can shoot more to save more. See, its all kinda technical and involves accounting and economics. Thats what I tell my wife and I am also a CPA - except she doesn't believe me for a minute and sees right through me! She also cant understand why I would run around with a bucket in my car looking for ww's :cbpour:

On this topic! My friend owns a large metal recycling center (what one used to call a junk yard) about 2 miles from here. Is there any lead to avoid? I have a hundred pounds or so of wheel weights (probably will have to sort out a good bit of steel and zinc). I can probably buy some lead from him if I need to but some will be out of batteries and some is from industrial sources. Anyway, just curious.
{edited - yeah, batteries are clearly a no-go!!)

Stay away from the battery lead!

I started saving money at this when i started crediting each hour spent in any shooting related activity at $60.00 per hour as therapy. As near as i can tell the break even point is around $50.00

Going to use a cast iron pan bought secondhand for $5 to smelt some wheel weights and make some ingots today. Ordered a Lee melter to make those ingots into cast boolits and sinkers (catfish man also). I really can't wait to shoot the 1888 Mauser sporter carbine. It has an octagon barrel and butterknife bolt handle. It's been in my collection for a decade and hasn't been out of the gun room since I bought it!

You are cheap! I'm billing $120/hr now. Toss in that figure and you are making money!
