View Full Version : Solder Bent Bolt

I purchased a bent bolt for my Mosin PU resniper project off of ebay. Everything was fine for a while. I now detect some looseness in the bolt handle. I have tried to solder it using a propane torch and lead free solder. It will hold for a short while then become loose again. My guess is the bent bolt handle is threaded in the bolt but not pinned. Would using silver solder hold. If so, a suggestion on what solder and where to get it would be great.

Would be better if it were MIG welded. Your local Gunsmith should be able to help.

Yes, silver solder will be ideal for this application. Here's a pic of one of two mosin bolts I have done with silver solder. No problems with either after thousands of rounds through both of them. Both of these bolts were threaded and not pinned.

I used a medium/high silver content solder, my heat source was oxy/propane, straight propane does not generate enough heat to get a good enough fillet for my liking.

We Tig weld them . They are stronger that way.
