View Full Version : Smith-Corona 1903-a3
i have one that has been sportorised and reamed to an obsolete caliber, the 300 Wade magnum. its been for sale for a while with no takers, so my thoughts are turning to rebarrel to another caliber 25-06 would be my choice. were there any problems with the 1903-a3 as far as heat treating?
thanks,

as for the receiver no. If you do a 270 cal it will do all the 25-06 will do and ammo is easy to find

I didn't see where it was for sale...what are you asking?
It's on GB, so not sure I can say here.

I've already got a 25-06 and a couple 257 Roberts, and a 257 Weatherby, so I've got 25 caliber bullets and brass. As for the 270 it's a nice round, the one I own is for sale.

I took peek at the add, nice looking Springfield, the Wade is comparable to the 308 Norma Mag/ 30-338 rounds, and easy to load for.
I have the same gun in Norma and it is a really great shooter. No indication of the asking price, I would estimate a $400 shot would be ball park.
It needs a new home, or else it's gonna become a new 25-06! New barrel, Boyd's stock, and a cerakote finish. It's already drilled and tapped, so a nice Leupold fixed power 6x scope.

If the rails in the receiver have been altered to feed the magnum cases you probably won't get good feeding with the smaller 25-06 case. I know nothing about what case the wade 300 is based on. Frank

The bolt has to have been opened up to use the belted mag rim, 25-06 is not an option with this one.
you may as well buy a stripped action and start from scratch. the Wade is based on he belted mag case.

Looks like you've got the action for another 257 Weatherby, that's in staying 25 cal for you:)

Bolts for 03a3's are cheap, like 20-30$ NIW.
Another 257 Weatherby would not be first choice, I've got 3 Weatherbys, 300,257 and 240. The 300 is for sale, I'll keep the the other 2 for now. Hoping this will sell.
