I have a Hi-Standard Double Nine 22 revolver that over cocks when using single action. Pull hammer back to cock it and it travels to far allowing it (trigger) to fall down under the hammer. I have cleaned the gun disassembled it and looked for damage and wear but see nothing extreme or unusual. Ok i'm not a gun smith but am mechanically inclined. was hoping someone could point me in the right direction or area to look for the problem. The gun was handed down from my wife's grandmother who passed in 2013 so would like to shoot it in single and double action. Plus really curious. thanks Rich

Probably the cylinder stop bolt/assembly. That's what limits the turn of the cylinder when cocked by being spring forced into a slot/notch on the cylinder wall. Good place to start, anyway. Could be that the bolt is not being pushed into the slot by its spring. Might be solved by disassembly and cleaning, or purchase the entire assembly from Numrich Gun Parts for about $25.

well the problem is the hammer travels to far back. The trigger actually falls under the hammer when hammer over travels. The cylinder locks tight and doesn't move at that point. it is very clean as well....kids say i'm ocd about cleaning my guns:razz:

Spur might be partially broke on the hammer.

Something is sheared off on either the hammer or the trigger or the separate sear.

if this is a leaf spring revolver under the trigger guard put a stop so that the leaf spring stops against the base and holds the hammer from going all the way back. This is a Colt Single Action trick.

Go here

http://pdf.textfiles.com/manuals/FIREARMS/histandard_w100.pdf

and take a look to see if your parts look and go together as shown. It's a place to start.

Thanks to every one for your responses ! The problem is I can't tell which is the worn part. The gun can be disassembled so you can see how it operates, but there isn't any drawings to compare dimensions of the parts. Not to many parts available either :(. Numriches has a hammer but no trigger. oh well thanks again Rich

M series guns actually began shipping in December of 1971. This data provides the known highest serial number produced in a given year--but the guns were rarely shipped in serial number order. Production from 1978-1984 was at the East Hartford location. For more detailed information and for earlier revolvers see www.histandard.info (http://www.histandard.info/).\

Hope This helps.

I finally got to look at the pdf that woody sent, and I see that the hammer stop idea won't work on that gun!.......sorry.
