I have been gifted a Lee Enfield. The bolt and receiver are matching parts numbers, a five digit serial. The receiver/stock "ring" beneath the firing pin is stamped B O (with a chevron beneath the O) then M1944 beneath that with the serial number beneath that. The left side of the receiver is stamped No 4 MK with an A in an oval near the receiver/barrel ring. The sight is a peep which elevates and is stamped CMk 3 The right side of the muzzle just forward of the bayonet lug is stamped CAI ST. ALB. VT with 303B UK beneath that. The barrel appears in remarkably good condition with well defined rifling from throat to muzzle. The bore is not dark. The rifle does not have a magazine (Know a source? Is the ProMag a decent option?) The stock has been varnished at some point, I would think that should be an oil finish. Behind the trigger guard on the stock wrist is 34 G R and a cartouche with two unreadable letters/numbers or combination of those. Where can I find good instruction for taking the rifle down and giving it a good deep cleaning, the trigger well is full of dust, I assume from this the innards need a good cleaning. I hope to make a good cast boolit plinker from the rifle, Thanks for your help.

Forgot to add, the front sight is dovetailed. There is a screw head on the left side of the sight mount slightly forward and below the sight. Does this adjust windage or is windage drift adjustable only?

Pics would help for sure, but sounds like a No. 4 MK I, chambered in 303 British. Good rifles that are a bunch of fun to shoot.

It does sound like a No.4 Mk.1 rifle. The front sight screw just assures that it stays in place, and you have to loosen it to drift the sight blade. A good source for detailed disassembly information is the J.B. Woods series of assembly/disassembly books with lots of helpful photographs, softcovers, try Brownell's. Genuine magazines are getting harder to find and last time I checked were running around $25.00, but if you check out the gun parts for sale on Gunbroker.com, E-bay, Numrich Gun Parts Corp., SARCO, Bob's, etc. you will turn one up.

Thank you for all your help guys. I'm not too technologically advanced, so taking pics and posting them is not something I can do readily or easily. I will try to see if I can make that happen.
