I'm hoping you gentleman can give me some advice, my local reloading supplier had a 5lbs. can of IMR-4759 powder I can get dirt cheap. I know its a ShotGun Powder, but the dealer swears that I can use it for my 45acp and 45LC loads. I've been all over the IMR website looking for load information but am so far unable to find anything.

Does anyone have experience loading this for 45acp and 45lc? I'm also looking for a Cowboy load using 240gr LRN bullets also. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I have never used SR4759 in a 45acp and I don't own a 45 Colt so I can't help with first hand experience.

4759 is very bulky and is too slow for 45 ACP however it's a decent powder in 45 Colt but will not burn well at standard pressures and is better suited for heavy for caliber boolits and pushed into the the Ruger/TC/Freedom Arm load data.

4759 is not a shotgun powder. You're confusing it with 4756. Better get the number straight and be sure what it is. It is not at all suited for 45 ACP and only for 45 Colt at the upper end loads. It is not suited for mouse fart cowboy loads in any cartridge.

4759 is slated to go away through lack of any new production. It's currently sought by many as it is a sterling powder in cast boolit rifle loads. I'd definitely pick it up as you'll always be able to sell it, probably at a good profit.

If the powder is actually 4756, you'll find it more than suitable for your needs in the 45 ACP and 45 Colt.
