I have shot thousands of the Lyman 452460's. We've always like the boolit. I keep hearing about the HG 68 design. I almost bought the Lee 2 cavity to give it a try, but I don't like Lee BB molds. Is it worth saving pennies for a Mihec or a NOE HG 68? Or will it not be better than the Lyman? Anyone used both?

The biggest difference, IMO, is that the 68 is more reliable a feeder in a wider
range of guns due to a longer nose. Some guns will not feed the 460 with
100% reliability, but the H&G 68 can be loaded to feed with essentially 100%
certainty in any 1911. I can't claim to have much experience with other SA
.45 ACPs, so there may be issues with them.

Both are very accurate. IME, I have had slightly better accy with the 452460, but
I wouldn't think that this can be counted on to be true for just any gun.

When accuracy counts, Mihec is the gold standard of the 3 molds you sighted. The Mihec mold got it's 15 minutes of fame when I 1st got it. It took 15 minutes to make the test loads & test them @ the range. Some people buy car insurance in 15 minutes, this is what I got with a 1911 in 15 minutes.

ymmv but I'll stick with the Mihec clones.

The Mihec's will give any of these hb's boolits a run for their money (left 175g/center 185g/right 195g). http://i162.photobucket.com/albums/t242/forrestr-photo/45hbs_zps253d8393.jpg (http://s162.photobucket.com/user/forrestr-photo/media/45hbs_zps253d8393.jpg.html)

My experience is similar to MtGun44 the 452460 had a slight accuracy edge over the H&G 68. I never had a problem with the 460 in 4 different 1911's, but with the shorter nose (on the 460) I can see where the H&G would feed better in an older box stock gun. That said, if you have a bullseye accurate 1911 either design will stay well inside the 10 ring on a 50 yd target.

I would hate to have to live on the difference twixt the twain, twere the difference in dollars and the dollars my days pay. I have both a Mihec H&G 68 [plain and HP, and a 452-460 and have used both with success, but Mtgun44 nails it when he said the H&G is more reliable. My SIL's P-12 was hanging up with PMC factory hardball, but ran like a champ with my H&G 68's loaded over WW-231. The H&G works well in my Sig P=220, my old Combat Commander liked it, and my Llama likes it too. The 429-460 does not work well in the Llama, but does in the SIG. I never shot the 429=460 in the Colt before I foolishly sold it, so others will have to guide you there, but the 68 will work in just about any gun that will work with hardball equivalent.

Thanks guys, I think I'll keep my mold money for something else. The 45's we currently have between my brothers and Dad all feed the 452460 just fine. If the 68 cant add more to the accuracy, Then I should spend my time practicing, not looking for a different mold!
