Will the standard Dillon powder through expander open up 9mm cases enough to load cast 9mm boolits without damaging them? It works great with jacketed but I want to try some of Donnie's coated ones. What about the "oversized" .357/.358 boolits commonly advised for 9mm? I have a .38 Special/.357 Mag Lyman "M" die that could be used if necessary.
what kind of dillon? I have had more success lowering the swaging station "seater" than with the powder die but that is on a 1050.

I size mine .3575" and the dillon works just fine. No "M" die necessary.

I was afraid I'd squash down the boolit, loose the advantage of the "oversize" boolit, and result in poor accuracy and leading.

I have loaded quite a few thousand 9mm on a 650 and seating the Lee 120TC. Works slick once the thru powder die is adjusted for proper bell on the case.

My expander for 9mm is .351". If I try to load my cast, they get swaged to .352". My .38 expander is .355, and is too short to use on 9mm.
Dillon 650.

I had Buckshot make me an oversize powder funnel/expander. .354 IIRC. it was a couple of years ago.

I also had Buckshot make me a Lyman M style that is oversize and works great no more swagging down my boolits. I size to .3585

As you can see from my number of posts, I'm relatively new to this site. How can I contact this "Buckshot" individual? The oversized Dillon style powder through expander sounds like the way to go.

I use my 550 for 9mm and load the Lee 120 TC, no problems at all.

I ordered a new expander last week for both 9mm and .38, thinking mine had just worn down. The new 9mm is .352, and the new .38 is .354". Also, the style is a little changed from my old ones. Looks like I will be pleading Buckshot to make one.
If the expander portion only extended .25" into the case, at, say .356" o.d., wouldn't there be a "step" at .25" into the case to prevent the bullet from being pushed back any further?
Help us Obi-Wan Buckshot, you are our only hope!

You can also get one made for the Mr bullet feeder. I got mine from competitive edge dynamics. Yes in the beginning, I had troubles. I also slightly lapped out my seating die to prevent it from scraping coating by closing the taper prior to crimp. I run .357 for good reason.

I have the 550B and never have had a problem loading thousands of 9MM cast boolits. As already mentioned you adjust the depth of the belling you want and go. Once set you can forget it. I size all my 9MM boolits .357.
Take Care
