Haven't seen any new GP100 porn lately, so here is mine.

Just picked her up today. Remember my thread on P95 or SW SD9VE? Well this is what I ended up with! LOL she has some mars and dings but cleans up nicely. A new rubber grip and poplar wood panels from Chig's Grips finishes her up. I ordered a set of Wolff springs, but I like the way it is. So will keep those for my next one. :)

Most excellent! I love my blued GP100. I have light maple inserts similar to that for day wear, and black walnut for evening wear.

My best shooter as well.

I really like Ruger Blackhawks, but just goo-goo ga-ga over these GP100s and the old Security Sixes!
And I like the half lugs.

I did some searching and found out my DAO GP was a contract weapon for overseas police forces. Guess mine was taken care of, because its got a few normal dings and mars but nothing that would not be on a 20 year old duty weapon. In fact, it looks really good! I do think it was never broken down to be cleaned! I broke it down and cleaned it and it just "felt" really tight.

I did shoot it yesterday, before I changed the grips. I shot a little high with my +p 38 Special 140 SWC and 158 RF loads. But shot POA with 125gr JHP 357 Magnum loads. So it looks like I have the justification to get that 125 RF mold. And after shooting nothing but a S&W 642 during training, its a ***** cat! LOL Even the 357 loads were quick on the follow up shots. But then its not a pocket carrying weapon either.

I did notice some leading in the throat area. Looks like I will have to start sizing my boolits, but not a big thing. Really, not that bad after 300 rounds so might just be lazy and shoot them as dropped.

Just waiting for 6" half lug to come up for sale. SOIL deer need thinning out.

That's an AWESOME gun! I think you did WAY better than your original two choices. That half lug barrel is sweet.
I would have snatched that one up in a nanosecond. If you purchased Wolff springs you may want to try them. They make a huge difference in the GP's. You can go two pounds lighter on the trigger return spring and about the same on the mainspring without even slightly affecting the reliability. The factory springs are far heavier than needed and the GP's respond very well to reducing the spring weights.

I've been looking for a 4" GPNY and that DAO GP-100 is a really close copy except for the .357 chambering.
If you ever want to sell that, please let me know.

While I'm drooling over that DAO GP-100, allow me to also say that I have a fondness for the Security-Six's as well and would really like to find one of the DAO Service-Six's in 38 Special. Just in case you have one of those lying around that you don't need "for squirrels and such..."

P&P,
It's a 357 Magnum! I just have about two zillion pieces of 38 brass primed!
It shot the 357 Mag loads great!

3" gpny

If I ever find two, I will let you know! LOL
A 3" would be a nice piece. Even trying to find a "regular" 3" fixed sighted GP is next to impossible.

I like the factory grips on my GP100 and his big brother. Was going to include big daddy S&W 500 but he wouldn't fit in the picture...

Nice gun, those half lug GP's are awesome. I would love to get a KGPF-840, the same one in .38 Special. Still kicking myself for not buyin one NIB in 2002 when I had the chance.

The half lug 38Spl's with fixed sights are the almost the reincarnation of the Service-Six on steroids. Talk about being over-built!

I have a 1988 Service Six and absolutely love it. Many folks can't believe it's "only" a .38. It shoots the 140 and 158 grain boolits equally well unlike my S&W 10-5 which strongly prefers 158's. Sadly I don't put so many rounds through it nowadays because its still in barely used condition and Ruger ain't making any more. Over on the Ruger forum people say that Ruger is starting to run out of parts for the Sixes. I need to get another GP for range blasting sometime.

My thoughts are this......its was made not born so someone can make a part for it! :)

I was pondering the same thing when looking over the SS, what if it breaks. Then I think back to my 41 Mag BH that I regularly had the base pin blow out and the cyclinder go rolling away. It was a tank and it took loads I couldn't. And now I am pass that phase, I don't see the SS being too likely to break. Especially the one I am looking at. Looks like it had less than 100 rounds through it. Now if it was an old police trade in, well I doubt I would still worry about it. Its a Ruger.

The Six series revolvers were some of the most under-rated revolvers ever made. I've heard more than one gun shop "expert" offer their decidedly uninformed disparaging opinion about the Service-Six / Security-Six / Speed-Six models. That was once a good thing because those opinions helped to keep the prices of those used Six-series revolvers lower. Unfortunately the slander didn't keep the prices low forever and as others found out about the strength of those guns they became more expensive.
They are more than strong enough for use with any sane load and I wouldn't be the least concerned about the availability of parts.

I don't think that my Six is going to fall apart anytime soon. Mine is stainless, last year of production, and I'm the second owner. It doesn't hardly even have a turn ring on the cylinder. If it was a high mileage ex-LE gun I wouldn't mind but I suppose I just enjoy keeping it nearly new and admiring it for the classic that it is. Kind of like an all original Mustang that gets driven only on sunny afternoons or when you really want to show off!!
