I don't have a pic, but all I need is the range.
It belongs to a little old lady who asked what it is worth.

Bore condition is critical. If very good, could be $1500 with nice wood condition and no
external pitting, just patina. I paid $1000 for a refinished one a bit older with a OK bore.
Refinishing lowers the value. If bore is bad, it could be $350 or $400, with less than nice
wood condition and poorer metal condition, too.

I saw one in a pawn shop, and they were trying to value it. I helped them check with Winchester in Cody, and when the cross referencing and research was done, the thing came in at $23,000!! She really needs to go to someone and really check ss nos. and all of the "extras" could still be worth $350, but it is good to know.

Bore and mechanicals is almost everything to me. I doubt it has significant collector value but I don't play that game, I like old "shooters". One with a good bore, nice action and decent wood would convince me to shell out as much as $1200 but I've seen them go for less.

Crescent butt should be a rifle, 26" octagon unless special order different.

At a guess, not seeing the rifle but assuming a decent bore, I'd put the value between 1000-1400 dollars. Do give the bore a thorough cleaning before making a valuation. I bought my M-71 for 400 dollars below market, because the bore had copper stalagmites growing in it. The seller and I both thought the barrel was toast. Just 10 minutes cleaning would have told him otherwise and made him some money.

my 1910 38-55 takedown , crescent butt , not blued ( cause I don't think they were back then ) was $375 about 3 years ago. your details aren't much to go by. you didn't even mention the condition of the rifle or the bore.

My special order Winchester 94 38-55 with a half mag, saddle ring and tangent sights was $17.50 in 1917 from Hudson Bay Co. Might be worth a buck or two more now. Yes, our family still has that very faded receipt. Priceless to the family, but even without the history should go better than $1500 depending on condition. Judging from what gun shows wanted for vintage Winchesters with no known history, could go anywhere from $2500-$4000 again depending on condition. What they are actually selling for is another matter, crazy asking prices though.

Asking price............fair market price..........and selling price are as far apart as
la.............houston and boston.......the market is soft on 94's right now and the $23,000...........price is off the chart.........that has to be a super deluxe rifle owed
by teddy roosevelt to warrant a price like that so don't even think there is any value to a 38-55 for the most part running into these kind of figures......for the most part the big buck rifles are gobbled up by us dealers way before they go our on the rack for general public sales and we do our homework before throwing down tens of thousands of dollars for good investment guns and people like me have them sold to collectors before we buy them taking a little profit and not
getting stuck with big ticket items.........a pawn shop guy that has a $23,000. Rifle
for sale for $1500 or so does not exist.....these guys arn't stupid they also do homework and if they even remotely think they have a winner they will contact
one of their wholesale dealers who will do the research and either pre-sell or
pay a lot more for it then the general public will.......money tied up in inventory
in a pawn shop it bad investments as the name of the game is the 20+ percent per month on money loaned out not stuff on the shelf very slowly selling off and returning to loanable cash............

In our area of Nevada, real common to walk into a Pawn shop and find a common Winchester 94 in 30:30 with a asking price on the tag between $800-900, if in good condition and if made before 1950. Add in a different desirable caliber and that tag jumps up $300-400 more. Tough shape, bad bore, post 64 prices start to fall. I'm sure where you live, and what the market is in your area, has more to do with it than anything else. Folks spending $25K on one are in a completely different league.

I go to that town to hunt, so if my brother does not get a pic, I probably will in October.

My brother annexed her barn, so if they can do that together, legally, they should be able to get a picture of a rifle.

the $23000 Winchester walked out the door, as the guy figured he needed to go some where where he could get a fair price for it. I am just saying it was researched, and the pawn shop owner was honest, and told him what we found to be a price for this particular gun. It had no provenance, just a lot of simple extras that shot the thing up. special order wood, octagon barrel in a longer than normal length.....just little things.
I am not saying this is the case for every gun, just this one, and if you don't know what you have find some reputable, and get it checked. Grandads .25-35 is probably not worth $1000, but I would not take 5K for it.

Thanks Ohiochuck for the above links. Looks like my WAG was a little low depending on condition of the rifle the OP is asking about. Your links were quite educational for me, looks like my 1940 30wcf with a Marbles tang sight should be going in the $1600-1800 range, good to know.

It always pays to look @ what Leroy Merz,Joe Salter,& Bill Goodman are asking for their comparable rifles B4 settling in on a price for your 94..A ton of special order features, rarer caliber, and high grade exterior are likely more important to a collector than bore condition,& the reverse is true for someone looking for a shooter...
