Is this a custom gun or factory? Guy says it is a Remington Rolling Block Model 6. What would value be on one in good shooting condition?

If the rifle is indeed a Rem. #6 I would not think about shooting it-PERIOD! From what I recall they were only chambered in .22 and .32 rimfire.

Yup, he might have his 32's mixed up. to non gun people, a 32 is a 32 and all lever guns are Winchesters,

Ok so without seeing it, it most likely is a .32 rimfire?

Can you explain for a noob why you would not shoot it?

I believe he is saying the #6 was a small receiver chambered for the relatively mild rimfire cartridges while the 32 Winchester Special is a round that develops a lot more pressure. The #6 would not be capable of handling it.

That action was never intended to be used at the pressure levels of a 32 Special- it is too small and of too light construction besides materials of reduced strength. It might not even be possible to get that large a cartridge in it. Without good pictures and measurements it is impossible to tell what it is. There are some larger framed rolling blocks that can easily accommodate that cartridge and considerably larger as well.

Thank you. I looked into the possibility of reloading for .32 rimfire..not something I want to get started in right now.

Some folks have had some luck with converting .32 rimfire guns over to .32 S&W short center fire. If you would enjoy using such a gun then this might be worth considering.

.

While the Remington archives refer to the RF Model 6 as a rolling block, it only looks like one - but it's not. (The Rem archives also list it as a CF)

The RF Model 6 was an inexpensive "Boy's Rifle", with a pivoting/dropping breechblock, with the barrel held to the lower receiver with a thumb/jam screw from underneath.

I do like the sound of that..but budget doesn't allow buying 2 guns a month.

The conversion is fairly easy, rent a reamer to rechamber to .32 S&W , convert the block to cf from rf, not a big deal IF you have a few tools and some mechanical skills.
I converted a #4 RB to .32 -20 did not take long, but I have the tools.

This little action is good for the 22 and 32 rim fire but going to a 32 S&W may be to much pressure at 16,000 psi. Better to put a liner in it and make a 22 out of it. The original 32 rim fire long had 9 grains of black powder, not a high pressure round. The breach on the # 6 and #4 is held in with a cross screw which is not very strong compared to modern guns. A 32-20 on a #4 would be scary.
A while back someone sent me a Stevens 44 that had been a 25-20 and someone chambered it to a 25-35. With the rifle came two broken breach blocks, like they didn't learn when the first one broke. It's a wonder someone didn't get hurt or killed.
