I keep thinking about getting a contender or an encore carbine in 357 max. I am considering the encore because of the versatility of the rifle. I have read bad things about TC's Max chambers and am wondering if you can buy a barrelless reciever and stocks, for the encore. Then I would buy one of the good aftermarket barrels in the max.

Would this be the best way to go? I have never shot an encore, but the local shop had one in 25-06, and when I shouldered it, it felt really good. It had the flextech stocks.

Thanks,

Crabo

lookin for a pistol or rifle?

If rifle I'd get a NEF in 357 mag and have it reamed out to Max.

If you check mike Bellm's website he talks about 357 max. Its one of his favorites, but you have rechamber a 357 mag to get rid of the forcing cone.

You can buy just the frames if you want. Most dealers will order you one in either pistol or rifle package but it is a good idea to have them write them up as hand guns to avoid and BATF entanglements.

I have a 357 Mag barrel for my handyrifle on order and I intend to have it reamed to 357 max when I get it. I figure that's the cheapest way to get one for testing.

If I wanted a inexpensive S.S., I would go with a .357 Handirifle reamed out to .357max, which you can do by hand yourself. Or you can go with a TC Contender or for a real fine rifle a 97D Rifle by EA Brown. EA Brown also makes custom Contender barrels in .357 Max as well. Occasionally I see Martini Cadets for sale in .357 max, but you can ussually buy a Contender for what they want for a Cadet.
