View Full Version : excercising an old friend
Before the old eyes quit and nerves go south thought I'd break out an old "safe queen" friend. Having shot only a Glock for the past 16 yrs. figured it was time to get back to blue steel and wood. This morning grabbed a pre-15 (Mod 15) S & W out of the safe, loaded up some 38 specials and headed to the range. The gun is a 1957 manuf. pre-15, 4", all factory, no alterations, with factory Patridge sights.
The load was 130 gr. Magnus SWC plain base, 358 dia, over 3.0 gr. Trailboss, OAL- 1.395", Lee factory crimp.
Range- 15 yards using sandbag under wrist rest, shot single action. 12 shot group size- 1.1" center to center
Feels good when a plan comes together :-D

Nice shooting. I agree with you about a plan coming together. My model 13 has not seen much use since I got a different job in 96. I did cast up a batch of WC's a couple weeks ago. Then found I never bought dies for it, still have the Lee Loader. Now I have another snow day project after I find the plastic mallet :-D
Good stuff! Gotta love those classy K-38s! It just doesn't get much better than that (BTW -- that revolver has a Baughman ramp front sight, not a Patridge blade).
Boy you sure do waste a lot of good target space by using that one little-ole'-bitty spot right in the middle.

Glen,
You're absolutely correct about the Mod. 15 front sight... factory combat type. The Target Patridge front is standard on the Mod 14 :)

I'm with you Keith, I print up my own targets and I try to get all the "good" out of one. I put holes all over it.

I just recently "backed into one" at my home club. I opened my mouth at the "wrong" time and took one home. It is about 95%. It is an "EX-LEO" from the People's Republic of California (no doubt a police trade in) that is excellent mechanically and just a bit of holster wear. I am looking forward to shooting it soon.
When I was a young lad, I lusted after one but, for some reason, never got the job done. Guess it's never too late[smilie=1:. I have my old (like new) PPC K-38 Masterpiece, so really didn't "need" one but now I have one...
These are really a bit on the WONDERFUL side, in my opinion...

Wow that model 15 shoots! I recently got a Model 14 6" & it shoots about like yours. It shoots a whole lot better than I do

old S&W's are really sexy. Stop it.........
I could do that everytime out with a handgun from a modified Weaver, weak hand or strong, 7 to 50 yds... times 60
Then back to the PPC circuit and.... bring all comers!... oh I remember now that was 35 years ago.... oh well:neutral:
Can only do it maybe half the time now from a rest at 15yds with the K22, 14, and 15.
Yes, the old S & Ws be a lot of fun to shoot!:Fire:
