Generally, I don't pay for lead. But 45 lbs for $3 I would make an exception. Congrats!

great score.

usually the only times I find lead at yard sales, it's the other way around. More like they want $45 for 3 lbs[smilie=b:

Elbow,

I go to yard sales now and then. Just in case: what the heck is a "down rigger weight", and what does it look like?

Way behind the curve on this one...

Thanks,
Bob

Most downrigger weight I see are a ball with a fin on it to make it track straight and not twist the line. Has a hook cast into the top or a clip.

Downrigger weights are very heavy weights used to get lures down to depth while trolling. They are hung by cable from a downrigger and the fishing line is attached by a quick release mechanism that releases the line when the fish strikes. They are common for big water fishing where depth fished can reach 40-200 ft.

They look like this, I got these 2 in my last bunch of lead from the scrap yard.

The one is a 8 pound cannon ball the other is a 10 pound in fish shape. They come in a lot of sizes.

Thanks guys! Probably won't see any at yard sales here in Colorado, but I'm ready now!
