Just ordered my first NOE bullet mold!

326471 215Gr. FN 4 cavity GC

http://noebulletmolds.com/NV/product_info.php?cPath=32&products_id=820

My Czech Persian Mauser 98/29 loves the Lyman 323471 @ .324" so I'm hoping the NOE version will be as accurate.

I went to the range yesterday with my 8 mm scout rifle.

I shot the NOE, 326331, 242 gr. round nose . It is DEADLY out of my rifle.

The round that is " high left " is obviously me, look at the other 4 rounds !
By the way, I shot a few groups with the 331' gas checked 8 X 57 yesterday that were actually better than the photo below. The 331' is a great bullet out of my Scout Rifle.

Here I am sitting at the bench loading some with my Lee Hand Press.

Ya'know, Ben, I follow your posts on loading for your 8mm sporter. As a long time collector and shooter of military rifles I get a lump in my throat when forced to view a chopped Mauser. But I must begrudgingly admit you did a very nice job on yours. Very clean and nice looking. I hate that:-).

And now you're going to burden my life FURTHER with reports of this yet heavier 8mm boolit from NOE??? I can only afford so many $100 molds but I wouldn't waste $$ for a mold of a lighter boolit. I like the way a heavy boolit laughs off crosswinds and distance in great arcs of trajectory.

p.s. I may work on a couple un-military Mausers this year. One may be a Chilean m/1912 in .358 Winchester as a cast boolit shooter.

Dutch,

I have some classic Mausers that are in near mint condition.
I wouldn't dare do something like the Scout conversion you see above to one of them.

As to this particular rifle, I walked into a local gun shop about 15 or so years ago. The owner of the shop had just received about 40 ea. of these Mausers. He must have bought them " right ".

I looked at those Mausers for over an hour, paying particular attention to the bores of the rifles. I paid him $60 ( tax, tag, title ) out the door for my donor rifle for my Scout that you see below in the photo. The bore was pristine. Best barrel of the lot that I looked at that day.

Other than the turn down bolt on my rifle , I did all the work myself.

I'm very happy with the end results of the project.

Ben,

You've been getting great groups at 50yds. What do your groups look like at 100yds? Please advise.

1.5 - 2.0 " usually with my Scout rifle at 100 yards , much better than that with cast bullets in my 7 X 57 mm sporter .

Hi Ben,

i`ve been very positiv looking into the future for very good results with this 326471
i use it in my Commission Rifle 1888 with Bullseye , HP 38 or other brands
My Lee 324-175 was not bad but i think that the NOE will hit him by far

By the way your Rifle looks very nice
I will take a look around for a similar Rifle.
not really sure to buy a real hunting rifle with Mauser System or by a Military Rifle M93- M98 and rework it by myselfe

Hi Ben

one more question
have you got replaced the militarybarrel with a custom made
Or did you shortened the standard barrel only ?

i`m playing with the idea to buy a M38 Swedish Mauser and rework the Shaft into a sporterized looking
the boldhandle is curved already and the accuracy of the SM are legendary

otherside your results with the 8x57 are very impressive too

I have just both calibers on hand ( Commission Rifle 88 and a M96 SM )

your advise is much appreciated

The barrel is the original. I shortened and re-crowned it myself to 24 ".
The action of the rifle is glass bedded. It has a Timmney adjustable trigger set to 1 lb. The bolt was sent to my gunsmith that turned the original straight handle down and added a bit of " sweep " to the handle shape. The rifle has a Williams rear peep sight and a front ramp added to the barrel with an ivory bead. I did all the work myself ( keeping the cost down ) except the turning down of the bolt handle.

My rifle turned out great ( in my opinion ) mainly because I paid very close attention to the condition of the bore of the rifle I was buying and I was able to get it ( out the door ) for $60.

I ended up with a lot of rifle for that small investment.

As to your choices, I like the 6.5's,I own a pristine Model 96 , 6.5 X 55.

For cast bullet shooting ....NO.

I'll stay with my 8 mm.

You may have good luck shooting bullets that are a g/c design bullet WITHOUT a gas check.

I've tried it and have not experienced a lot of success.

A g/c installed that fits the bullet properly and things improve quickly.

That 'electric fan blows your groups' is an old wive's tale by people who don't know how to do things right. You need to make sure that your fan rotates in the same direction as your rifling.:kidding:

Hi Gents,

i have done a further trial last Saturday with my new NOE Bullets and two different loads

Sized the Bullets .323

6,2 grs BE
7,0 grs HP 38

Unfortunately 7 grs HP 38 produced 3 Tublers two outside the Target and one in the 8 at 8 o Clock

Shoot this Group without GC.
Seems that i have to reduce the charge down to 6,5 - 6,7 to avoide Tumblers

Also i have enclosed some pic`s of my 88 Commission Rifle
