I got this west German P220 of my dad & boy does it shoot with hardball! I've got some off the shelf 230 lead round noses that work okay but I'd like better accuracy / less leading.

I'd be interested in hearing from people who shoot lead in the P220. What mould do you like & what powder do you run them over? I have basically all the hercules powders.

Thanks!

Oh, I'm mostly interested in boolits around 230 roundnoses. Perfect reliability & that's what the sights seem to be regulated to. Have to shoot the as cast since I don't have a lubesizer & pan lube.

I use a 230gr RN Lyman mold I bought off of someone here.
My P220 shootems like a house a fire, about a 2 inch group @ 25 yards
Using 7gr 800X right now.

I slugged my barrel and sized them .001 over the bore, tumble lubed them with X-Lox

zero leading:Fire:

Slug your barrel; When it still has its factory barrel in it,it probably will be a little bit oversized, a common thing with a lot of P220's and P226's

7.0 gr IMR 800-X was my most accurate full power load so far with the Zero 230 gr JHP in a 1911. So far that hasn't worked as well for me with cast. Hodgdon Longshot was the most accurate powder for full power loads for me with the Hornady 230 gr XTP JHP. Same situation there with cast.

My current P-220 has a throat and grooves that measure .452". Lyman #452374 and the Lee 230 grain truncated cone sized at .452" and cast out of 92/6/2 alloy have worked well in this pistol; either Alox/beeswax 50/50 or Carnauba Red lube works well. Paul is correct about SIG barrels sometimes running a little wide--a past example I had was almost .454" in the throat.

I cast for my 220 using 230 tc lee mould and load 5.3 of hp 38 and it shoots great. Or 5.7 with a Lyman 452630 swc great shooting as well. Yeah sig likes it hot!

Reading on it some more I think I'm going to get the Lee 452-230-2R. Looks like it will fit the bill & read several good things about it. For $20 new, how can a guy go wrong?
