I picked up an older set of Lyman dies for the Tru-Line Jr. There are NIB. The sizing die and seating die fit the 38 S&W just fine. The expander is marked .386 but measures .385. The nominal bullet size of the 38 S&W is .361. The nominal diameter of the S&W case neck is .3855. I don't think it is likely a 38 S&W case expanded and bullets .385/.386 would chamber.

I am clueless about what I have. Any ideas?

My first thought was an expander for .38-40 got mixed in, but seems a bit small for that.

I believe an expander marked 386 is for a 41 Long Colt.

Call Lyman they may have the part you need. I bought an old 9mm set that had the TC seater and they sold me a RN seater for something like $7.

AH! Heeled boolit! Amazing, guys. I was wracking my brain, couldn't imagine
what was about a .390 or so boolit diam - so not the boolit, the heel.

If Bill is right and he usually is ............ you have a new mission!

Find a mold to make heeled bullets ........

............ it never ends!!

I have the mold, I may have the gun fixed since I blew it up, and I would suggest that you call the 310 shop and get the proper expander unless you want a set for the 41 Colt!

I don't think you push it all the way in, you just use it to flair the case mouth.

I think somebody at Lyman screwed the pooch when they were labeling and boxing the dies. I believe the expander is indeed for the heeled bullet in the 41 Colt round.
