I think it would be ok for a gun that clean. I paid 375 or so for one about 5 years ago that was nice but with some bluing wear. They are a nice ppistol if you like DA autos. Not sure about magazine availability these days. I bought several when I bought the gun. It is the only 9 I have or want.

I paid that for mine with a bit of holster wear, but it came with a holster and 3 mags. Saw one at the gun show last week in OK shape (no where near NEW) for $375, and when I picked it up to look he indicated that he would consider offers. I like my 39 very much, fits my hand better than the double stacks and I like having a hammer. My thought would be that is a fair price.

Early 39s had extractor issues, it was 4th gen before they entirely solved it.

There was an upgrade in 1979 for both the Model 39 and 59 to cure feeding and extraction issues. If the extractor has a tick mark on the front of it, it's an upgraded version, and the barrel bushing will be one piece.

Joe Foster, the designer of the Models 39, 52 and 59 was brought out of retirement to fix the problems and he came up with five parts to replace on the 59's and four parts on the 39's. I worked with him for two days upgrading our Model 59's.

I've got a Model 39-2 and a Model 639, the stainless steel version. Both are good shooters, but the Model 39 is more accurate.

Hope this helps.

if it is a 39-2, I'd hump on that like a kangaroo. I have one, but it has been carried and shot a lot. I carried it on duty for several years and have run a couple thousand rounds through it. As Beezapilot says, it fit my hand better than most and is quite accurate. I'd be glad to own two, especially if one was mint..
