I've been chasing accuracy with my 1990 marlin 336 35 rem with cast. I've tried three different powders (H322, IMR3031 and leverevolution). Thursday night I finally got some decent results.

Boolit is a NOE clone of the ranchdog 190 grain gas check with standard lube grooves. Alloy 50/50 wheel weights/pure Pb heat treated at 450F for 45 min then water quenched. Brass is neck sized hornady. 41.0 grains of leverevolution. Velocity should be around 2050-2100. 40 grains and 41.5 grains were not as accurate as 41.0 grains.

I traded into that mold myself. I have some put up over Reloder7, but haven't had a chance to put them on paper yet. It's a good looking boolit and those are promising results!

Glad to see some results using the leverevolution.

Is your rifle older than my 1990 336? Have you tried the NOE copy? I could send you some to try for fit.

What boolit? I had great results with 200 grain gummy tip ftx jwords over 41.6 grains of leverevolution.

Good luck

I have the NOE RD359-190 mold, I have a full box of hornady 200gr rn I may try also. I was having good success with varget powder, I'm running very low on it so try the LVR powder, just pick up another pound the day so that should last me awhile.

my gun likes 44gr. of LVR w/ hdy 200gr rn.

not fun off the brench, but 1.5in groups @ 100yds.

I will also try some 4064 powder, but my main goal is to work up a good load with the LVR powder.
I may get to play this weekend!

Hope you get a chance to play this weekend. I tried LVR under an original RD boolit awhile back but I stopped around 39.0grs. May have stopped too soon. Even loaded 40.0 under some 360-235 Thor boolits just for grins. LVR should work quite well for this cartridge, thanks for helping me get that project back on track.

Helping hand.
I just completed a short run for TmbrWlkr who is trying to get into casting... he bought the mold, I offerred to cast some HP and solids,
This NOE mold took longer than any other to get broken in enough to get good product.
Will try to finish a short run of solids this weekend, get checked and lubed, and get the whole package and molds back to him in the next couple of weeks.
I don't normally shoot .35, but have a few barrels chambered for it.

I've been thinking of ordering this mold and after seeing Djones' picture of the loaded round, I've really gotta have one now. We will see if it will feed in a Remington model 8.

It's one of my favorite hunting boolits, proven performance on heavy bones in larger hogs as well as the less-heavily built TX deer. I don't know if it will feed in your model 8 but can send you a few to build dummy rounds if you can't get a definitive answer.

That is a 100yd group, right? Does the rifle have a scope? If so what power?

Depending on your answers...I might say "nice group"...the details matter :)

Nice looking cartridge.

50 yards with a 2.75x Burris scout scope. I did title it getting "close". I didn't say I'm done!

I can get those groups in my Marlin 336 at 100 yards with H4227/IMR4227. I love the original RD mold with tumble-lube grooves.

Yes sir, looks like progress to me. My rifle likes your 41.0 gr load pretty well, afraid my scope didn't. Will load up a few more to verify this weekend.

That is great news! I hope you can anchor a hog or deer soon with your 35. Good luck

My daughter was sick this mourning, so I took off work to stay with her, and while she was sleeping I cranked up the stove in the shop, and cast around 200 boolits for the 35. I'm using strait WW, and now all I have to do is install the gas checks, and size them, and hopefully this weekend it's a go!

Thanks but it's already anchored a few with a Rx7 load. Always looking for a new load and have a new boolit to figure out as well. I think the 235 boolit may be even happier with the LVR powder than the RD 359-190. Time will tell.

Wow---that 190 makes 1860 ft-lbs if is doing 2100 fps (muzzle). With that kind of accuracy. How dead is dead?

With a big hog I like two broken shoulders and an exit wound. 359190 won't quite exit but it will shatter both shoulders on a 140-150lb hog. I can't resist busting a big pig. ;-) Always room for improvement, I guess.

Shot the 41 grain of LVR into four one gal jugs of water and into a bag of old clothes. Recovered bullet lost 6% weight and expanded to 0.5" diameter. I know some guys don't like using milk jugs but water gives me a constant during my testing that doesn't vary and my year and a half old daughter can down some milk!

I will post a picture of the bullet tomorrow morning.

do you guys think I should go a little softer? Maybe try air cooled instead of heat treated? Maybe the expansion is good enough. I think it was pretty good expansion for 80 yards out of a 35 rem.

Looks very good to me. Penatration, expansion, and held together. Hope mine do that well out of my whelen.

I am working up a load right now with win 748. I have the data from ranch dog and it calls for 40 gr +. I started at 35gr with air cooled ww aloy. Good accuracy out to 75 yrds. Did not shoot of the bench, shoot off the side of truck bed standing. My group size were 1.5 ". I am bumping the powder to 36.5 to see if I get better groups. I was not able to recover any boolits. I think I will have to heat treat to keep the boolit from breaking up. The BH of the air cooled are 13. Love this mold I got from NOE. Boolits fall right out at 360 diam. Is anyone else working a 748 load ? Thanks

I used the same bullet with 38, 39, 40 and 41 grains of BL(c)-2. I had decent results with 38 and 41 grains. I did not chrono due to a busy range. They felt "slower" than my 41 grain of LVR load.

I recently took my scout scope off my 35 rem and am going with a williams peep sight. So far I really like the Williams FP on my 336. I will try to get some pictures of my BL(C)-2 groups soon.

Once I find a accurate load that suits me, I will be going to brass trimmed to 1.790". Indiana has a max case length law of 1.8" so hopefully this won't mess with my load too much. I have found in the past with j-words that the 0.1" shorter case does not change poi. We will see with cast!

Try a little copper in the alloy, AC. Indiana has a max case length law of 1.8" Wow. No Barret rifles allowed?

1.8". If marlin only made a lever action 460 s&w I'd be set.

What does the copper help with toughness, hardness or both? How do you get it into solution and at what %?

110462Did some shooting today. Worked up my w748 load to 40gr with great results. 11/8" 3 shot group at 125yards. Love that NOE 190 gr ranch dog design. Cast strait ww with 2 % tin. Water dropped out of the mould. BH a 20 with my lee tester. I used 45 45 10 lube. 35 rem is perfect for cast boolets.
