As I pondered deeply, a 21" 7-30 Waters Contender barrel came into view. Intrigued, the investigation into cast boolit loads began. Best I've run into so far is 4.5 grains of Unique below a 150 grain boolit. Anyone care to talk about their repressed memories?

Also have 285448 (118), 287129 (124), 287346 (135), 287405 (150), RCBS 7mm-145-SIL.

There's a nice custom 336 in 7-30 on a used gun rack near me that I'm trying to forget about. ;-) I'm trying not to get into any new calibers or cartridges but the 7-30 has always interested me, for whatever reason.

APPLES TO ORANGES HERE BUT, I shoot a 21 inch 7TCU...135 grain 7mm Thor or the 7MM Soupcan over 26 grains of H322 for 2512fps @ M.O.A accuracy if that helps.

The 7mm TCU is more along the lines I'm looking for since it is fast enough to be accurate, but slow enough to be frugal. I have a few Contender 7-30 barrels here, and from recent, positive, experience with Unique, like to continue the trend.

Just had some negative experiences with a 287346 being too long for a T/C 7-30 Waters throat. The GC is below the base of the neck. A bore rider like the RCBS 7mm-145-SIL might work, however. The 285448 seats well with a COL of 2.570".

7 mm is one of the newer sizes i'm casting for so my experience is still limited ,the rcbs's bore riding section is a bit too fat for either of my tc 7-30's throats , even when cast of 50/50 ww/Pb, not sure if this is the norm with tc barrels or just the particular mold i acquired ,going to try it in me 7-08 next
the 130 lee however has done tolerably well in either of the 7-30's , both for fire forming and casual plinking , i'm strongly leaning towards a soupcan mold next and perhaps after that the 287-461
oh ,both of my 7-30's are 14" hunter barrels ( yup with the loud brake ) no leaded bores yet but did have a wee bit of build up between a couple of ports once or twice

The nose is where it is at. The 285448 has an OAL of .860 with GC. The 287346 has an OAL of .980-ish. There but for an additional .100 or so go I.
