Want to buy one of these, and cant find one anywhere! Where are they all? According to the blue book, they aint rare or anything, same as a 30-30. Just because i have a desire,i cant seem to find one! When was the last time they were made? Are they micro-grooved? Im thinking that they would be a good cast boolit shooter. Any comments? thanks,

Mainiac, get a 30-30 and rebarrel it. Inside workings should need no changes are the case is the same other than the neck diameter. That way you could put a 'correct for caliber' size bore on it - .321.

added - and if you can't find a barrel - how about a liner?

Gun Parts Corp. has original barrels at a good price. Its an easy swap.

Geeze, thanks fellers! Was at a gunshop yesterday, and he had at least 15 30-30 marlins, from 259 to 325 dollars. I could pick up one of these, and rebarrell. Still, i would like an original. Being as how this is maine, there are 100,s of win 32 specials. But,as long as the old fellers are alive, they hang on to them!

Just be aware that at least SOME of the late-40s Marlin .32 Specials have undersize bores and faster twists, compared to standard .32 Specials.

My Model 36 (not 336) dates from 1947, and a 336 of about 1950 (?) vintage owned by Ol' Gringo, both measure about .318" in the grooves and have 10" twist. Ol' Gringo contacted Marlin directly and these measurements for rifles of that age were confirmed by them.

So, if i had to settle for this, wouldnt i be just as far ahead to just get a 30-3o? I read a article on how great shooting these 32,s was, with cast. Maybe it has to be a winchester? Dont want no win, my marlin 35 shoots so well,i thought i would like a 30 to go with it. Lately,i have a liking for marlins.Have a 336 and a 39.Did trigger jobs to them, that was very simple, and 1 screw,i can have the bolt out,and clean from behind with a bore guide.Very nice! Took a couple of 94-92,s apart before,,,,,, HORRORS!!!

There was a rumor that Marlin was going to chamber in .32WS again, now that they were bought by Remington who knows what will happen.
Horandy is going to make Leverevoultion in .32WS, production to start June 2008.
I emailed Hornady and asked.

so is the 32 win special of modern day an 8mm/.323 bore?

Load data for 32 Win Spl is really no problem. There's volumes of it available -- as 30-30. Using the same weight/design boolit loaded to 30-30 data you will get slightly less pressure and velocity. Start there, and in no time you can work a load.

I just bought one today at a local gun shop. Now I just need to find some load data for it and components. Found a 1950 made 336RC for $250. Can't wait to shoot it if I can find some ammo.

nvstickbow: Federal still loads 32 spcl. ammo. Don't know about Rem. or Win. as I haven't seen any lately.
For cast bullets get the RCBS 32-170 FN mould. It shoots great with several powders. However slug the bore on your 336RC and size bullets .001 or .002 over bore size.
My rifle likes about 28 gr of 4895, but yours might like 30-31, 4759, or the newer 5744.
The fun is in the trying of loads in the field and at the range.
Good luck, and enjoy your neat old 32 special.

For cast bullets in the 32 Special I use the RCBS 32-170 as well as the Lyman/Ideal 321297 mould !

Also on the horizon is the Ranch Dog 32 cal 170 grain mould . And based on the performance I have gotten from most all of his other moulds . This should be a good one !!!!

I will have to keep my eye out for that Ranch Dog mould. Will try the RCBS and Lyman in the mean time if I can find them. Thanks for the info and good luck finding yours Mainiac. I just took mine out this morning to shoot for the first time and love the round.
