I finally got around to slugging the bore of my 41 Mag Blackhawk and according to my measurements it is .405. Is this normal or are my readings off? I would have thought it would have been closer to .410. My procedure was to tap a .411 cast bullet through the barrel. I don’t have professional grade measuring devices but .405 is what I came up with. When I checked the cylinders with a pin gauge they were consistent at .410.
Are there any thoughts or suggestions regarding my measurements from this auspicious group?

Wow that sounds tight to me. Mine was like .412" Maybe you got some choke at the frame where the barrel threads in.

Boy this is weird.

I just slugged a friend's "new" 657 and got about .405", and the ball
was tight for about 1.5-2", then got easy to tap thru the rest of the
way! No tightness at the frame thread location. Throats are dead on
at .410"

Measured it and didn't believe it and did it again - same result.

Shot it today with a few swaged LWCs I picked up a the gunshow, and some
Fed factory (looks like Sierra 210 JHPs).

Decent groups, nothing fantastic, altho if you drop one flier from each
group some are really good. So ---- apparently a very tight 'choke' in the
barrel doesn't hurt the accuracy much or at all. Still, this seems very
odd to me.

Anyone else find a pistol with lots of "choke"?

What are you using for a measuring device? Dial caliper?

Gentlemen: I Read The Post Earlier And Went Tothe Shop And Sluged My 41 Ruger It Went .411 Clean
2 Thoughts How Clean Is Your Bore I Dontthink This Would Account For 5 Thousands, Is The Tightness At The Rear Of The Barrel, I Had A Dan Wesson 44 Mag Where This Area Was About 3 Thousands Below Bore Size The Weapon Was Very Accurate.

Yes, I am using a dial caliper. I did not notice if it was tighter in a certin part of the barrel. Should I slug the barrel again and if so is the .411 bullet a good idea or should I get something else?
