Broke out my older Lyman 358477 mold and cast up a few last week. After getting several NOE molds dropping 4 at a time I'm considering getting the NOE version. Just can't make up my mine on a HP version or not. I know the option is there to swap pins but I was wondering if anyone here has that mold in either form and what are your opinions. This will be used for 38 spl loads but may try them out in 357. I know the GC version would be a waste for 38's but would it be needed for 357 loads? Thanks!

I have the 2-cavity HP version of the 360477. I shoot these in .38 Spl mouse farts up to full tilt .357 Magnum loads. GC not necessary as long as you size properly to your bore. I like the HP personally, but have a Lyman 358477 if I ever care to cast solids.

I cast everything PB , if I get the notin to shoot some master blasters I just add a touch more tin for the heavies , they clock at 1100 fps+

The regular weight 158 or liter pushed hard can go fast enuff to skid a bit & need a GC , I can get em going 1300 fps.

This applies to handguns , I can see carbines needing a GC sooner.

But for general loads for shootin what needs shooting (1k fps or there `bouts PB) PB will fill the bill.

I have owned a 5 cavity NOE 360477 mold for a few months and have casted a lot of bullets with it. They shoot great in the .38 Special and shoot well in the .357 Magnum if sized to the bore and using a good lube. Great mold and easy to use!
I also own a NOE 358429 4 cavity hollow point mold for a longer time and use it often. It requires more care, adjustment, and proper technique than a solid bullet mold. It does make good hollow points many times faster than the old single pin and wood ball Lyman. I am not complaining about the hollow point mold: It does require more work to get the most out of it.
Having said this, both are very accurate bullets and NOE makes first class molds.

The 429 is one I have been wanting also. Couldn't make up my mind so I got both the 477 and the 429. My inventory of NOE moulds is rapidly growing. I could say the same for my Accurate mould inventory! Thanks fella's.
