I picked up a nice Marlin 1894 last weekend.
Manufactured in 1979 (ish)
What a beautiful piece of work.
I thought I had fun shooting revolvers, I might like this more. I'm totally hooked.
It's feeds everything from 358495 to 358429 except the 358429 in magnum brass. That's a little too long.
First shot at the 200 yard gong with iron sights and a modest load of bullseye under a 358156 rang like a bell.
I can't ask for more really.

What do you lever guys think about skinner sights? I was planning on ordering a peep sometime in the next week or two. They're sweet looking for sure and seem to have great reviews.

I'll try to get a pic of the new rifle up as soon as I have some decent light outside to snap a picture.

Congrats! Sounds like a keeper. No experience with the Skinner but with that rifle it would probably be my first choice.

I haven't used Skinner's but I do have the XS peep sight on my Marlin 44mag Cowboy Limited and it is really great. From what I hear, Skinner is quite a step up from the XS sights and I may switch to that in the near future. They sure beat the **** out of the buckhorn sight arrangement.

I put fire sights on one of mine and they are great when its getting dark. Not as good as a red dot but WAY better than standard iron sights.

In my opinion the Skinner sights are great, vertical adj. is limited so you have to match the front sight very closely and the info for that from Skinner was not accurate. So I had to muck around until I found a front sight with the right height.

Buy a front sight with the profile that you like and use a mill file to adjust the height.

XS Sights has plastic front sights that can be trimmed with a fingernail clipper or a pocket knife. Use one to determine the correct height for your rifle and load, and then order the correct sight.

I also like blade sights that can be filed to the correct height. My practice is to use the plastic sight to determine the nominal height, then install a blade that is slightly taller. Then, with the rear sight at the bottom of its adjustment range, I file the front sight. For a particular load, this gives a very low profile sight set.

I use Skinner sights on my Marlin 1894C. They're great. For my purposes, I wish Skinner would create something with better fine adjustment capabilities. That said, I'd still go with Skinner sights. They're a natural fit for a short to medium range carbine.

I use the XS sights on mine, but also have a rail for modern optics.

Skinners are what ride on my rifles.

As far as front post height. The instructions on the site are confusing. I bought the size above what I thought I needed and filed it down. It's tailored to my hunting load so it hits exactly where I want it to. The only drawback as that they are set it and forget it sights. Adjustment involves an Allen wrench which you won't be using in the field. I have a couple barrel mount apertures for my 99s that I'm waiting to try out as well.

Awesome info.
Awesome pictures.
I see the drawbacks to the skinners. Though it kind of leans towards my thinking lately.
I really need to find a load or two and use only that. When I bring one load to the range and get the feel for it I can hit whatever I want. When I bring 5 random loads I can't hit a damn thing because I'm dissing trying to remember where the poi was compared to the last round.
Pistol is cheap to shoot. Even if I load all of them at field loads I can still practice all day long and not feel like I'm wasting powder.
God I love that gun
