with the advent of new technologies, practices, and just new ideas....

what do you guys think of using "pids" with temperature probes in the molds themselves
and the pid controlling the hot plate to insure proper mold temps?

over kill?

discuss please as i am a new moldee...and i'll be watching this thread rerady to ask stupid questions galore!:-P

I personally do not see the need, but I expect to eventually see that and even the ability to hit a button on your cell phone to turn everything on, so that when a guy gets home everything will be at the right temp to start casting. LOL

There was a thread with this idea some months ago. Ill do some searching and update this post with what I find.

I built a dual PID controller just for this purpose. (There's a sticky here about it.) I would not willingly do without it to control pot temperature, and its nice (but I could live without it) for controlling mold/hot plate temperatures.

Quite a few members have done this. NOE offers the option of drilling their molds for a temp probe. I don't think it's necessary. But if you want precise control you want to control the temp of everything.
