Been looking around for a mold to make some light loads to use in a Marlin 336. The gun is set up with a little simmons scope on see thru mounts that allow the use of the iron sights for close in work. I really would like a light plinker/small game load that has a nice wide flatnose. Something economic that I can use (instead of the .22LR) to punch paper as well as woodchucks and bunnies.

This mold looks interesting to me......like a 311008 that has the nose of the 311440.
Any of you have experience with this boolit in the 30/30?

I've used the Lyman 311008 with most of the shotgun/pistol powders for loads to use in my Marlin 336. One of the most accurate is 5 grs of Hodgdon Clays. 50 yd groups are right around an inch usually. I've also had good luck with Red Dot, but don't recall the charge amount.

7 grs of Unique is what I use with a PB 120 gr boolit with 45/45/10 lube. Very stable out past 300 yards.

Denver,
That level of accuracy would do me just fine for my purposes.

OK, I can't explain this but here it is.

I have fired a zillion 311008s out of .30 carbines and a half dozen .32 caliber revolvers.
They work great and are relatively accurate. say 3" at 50yd.

When I try them in the .30-30 they spray all over the target frame. 12 to 18" groups at 50 yards.

I don't know if this is a twist thing or what. I just can't make them shoot in the .30-30.

If you succeed, please let me know what you did.

I've used the 3118 over five grains of Red Dot, gave me just over 1200 fps. Over seven grains of Universal Clays I get about 1420 or so. Both went into just over an inch at 50. Wheel weights that are air cooled, LARs 2500 lube. No filler.
