Well, i think as your bhn gets lower, so should your speed. But your speed range is not out of the question.... Gas check your boolits, and let them fly and see what ya get....

I use the Lee 185gn .303 bullet with a BHN of 11.8, gas checked to .311, lubed with 2 coats of LLA in my Model of 1917 Remington.

With a charge of 25.5gn of 5744, I can get POA/POI and 2.5 MOA groups at 100m.

IF, I remember to crank the sights up to 600 yards!

Disclaimer.
This load works well in MY rifle, use it at your own risk.

What powder are you using? If you use a slower powder, you don't need to go as hard. I don't see how you could get by with a BHN of 6 but you could tweak with other elements to get to at least BHN 9 fairly cheaply.

If you give us an idea, one of us can run through Quick Load and let you know what you may expect.

I'm doing those velocities in a 7.5 swiss, 30-30 and 303 Enfield. gas checked boolits and 50 / 50 clip -on wheel weights / lead , with a little extra tin for casting. Air cooled. Doing this to stretch my limited supply of wheel weights. Works just as well if not better than 100% wheel weights.

Go ahead and mix in some soft lead with the wheel weights, it works. Don't know what the hardness of this mix is.

I would bet 50/50 wheelweights to pure would do just fine. I get about Bhn 9 from mine, and I am seeing great results at over 2,100 fps. from my .35 Remington so far. I would think the .30 cal would do just as well, and I intend to find out. I just recently decided to try softer boolits myself. Good luck.

Ive been trying softer alloy too, since i got my hands on some pure lead. 50/50 pure/ww is working pretty darn well with almost everything. When i want harder, i just water drop (there is enough antimony in WW for this to work). Your linotype supply should allow you to do similar

Make sure the boolits are a good diameter! Youd be lucky if all three guns wanted the same

Powder coat your boolits and forget about worrying about hardness anymore! And leading!

1900 is not fast for PC. Some on her report upwards of 3000 with great success. You can back off your alloy mix and stretch it if you are running out.
