Has anyone ever loaded the RCBS 35-200 for .357 magnum rifle? I'm trying to help a friend work up a load for a handi rifle, so OAL is not a concern. I'm hoping to be able to reach the rifling with this boolit, I know these rifles are known for LONG throats.

I don't even know where to begin unless I use up some of the Trail Boss I have left. I have AA#5, Unique, 2400, Titegroup, Lil'Gun and a few others.

I have an NEF survivor in 357. This winter I wanted to try for some quiet loads. I loaded up some Lyman 358430 bullets which are advertised at 195 grains over 7 grains of 2400. Buulets were cast from straight wheel weights and actually weighed right at 200 grains. I've only shot about a half a dozen so far. They were louder than I hoped for, but still pretty quiet. They also hit pretty close to point of aim.

This gun gets shot more than any other gun I own and I have a lot of different loads for it. At 50 yards, most loads hit pretty close together. You get a more noticeable change in point of impact at 100 yards.

I'm hoping to find a load capable of cleanly taking deer out to 75-80 yards.

I have been able to get 1700+fps with the 35-200 in my 357 mag handi rifle using Alliant's 300MP. When you start seating that bullet out it makes room for more powder.
When shooting 180 and 200gr bullets seated long in my handi rifle the accuracy was horrible and chronograph results were horrible until I got over max published data for the bullet seated to cannelure.

In my handi the 35-200 seated about 1/8" in the case still did not touch the lands.

Be safe and work loads up slowly. If you have a chronograph it will tell you when you are getting things right. 1gr of powder took me from extreme spreads of 100fps plus to under around 15.

about heavy for calibre loads in the .357

I will second Blammers load of 14.0 g Lil Gun. The 357 Mag is the reason I own Lil Gun!

I use more than 14 gr in my 357 revolver (COAL of 1.68) and Ideals 35875 bullet @ 208 gr. It's the most accurate load I have for the 357.

I have used the RCBS 200gr fn alot in SS pistols and it is very accurate ! for my 357 mag rifle col is to long to work through the action but you can single load into chamber ,
For hunting i would use one of the various 180 gr WFN boolet designes , i have the group buy lee 180 gr gc WFN , this is my go to boolet for my marlin 357 for everything, plinking @1,050 fps with Tighhtgroup powder and fulltilt with Lilgun powder.

I have the same bullet plus a NOE 180gr (rcbs clone) that I'm going to try in my G2 12" 357mag. And again the throats are a mile long too. Even with the RCBS 35-200gr bullet, I cannot touch rifling and still have enough bullet left in the case. I would like to try some 360 Dan Wesson brass, and do have an order into Starline for some, but who knows how long it will be before they have enough order to start a production run.

we do 357 230 grain penn bullets dbl wad cutter "thunderhead" in handi with 9mm suppressor with 5.1 grains unique. drops about 6 inches @ 100yds like a rainbow. do 180 grainers at 5.6 grains unique with little to no drop. would try 200 grain at around 5.3 grains if you care to try unique, for a sunsonic load
