Hey gang I ran across a ruger vaquero bisley in 44mag it is blued with the case hardened frame and wood grips and 6" barrel. The guy wants $575 for it. It looks nearly new with a light turn ring. Im not sure of the year of manufacture. The price seems a bit high to me. What do you guys think? I already have a vaquero in 45 colt but have been wanting a 44mag and am kind of a fan of the bisley.

IIRC, that was a special run for one of the distributors. The CCH was a chemical process and some owners have had issues with it and when addressed with Ruger, they've offered to refinish it to standard (blued) for free.

Price seems about $100-$125 too high, IMHO, and is the cost of a new gun. They aren't really "collectable" like the older 3 screws and brass framed guns are. If you just have to have it, haggle and pay your dues. If you just want a 44, wait and keep looking for a regular run Bisley.

Thanks for the input I was thinking it was a bit steep. I found out it is an old model vaquero from 1996. The case hardened frame is what I liked most about it but not if it wont hold up to regular use.

I am of the opinion that more Ruger 44 & 45's get tested with over book max loads than any other gun. I would be cautious about paying on the high end for one. Little use does not necessarily mean light loads.

That is high, not crazy high, but 475-500 would be a little closer to fair market value, at least here on the left cost.

So long as your happy with it, I've never let a gun get away for $25 so long as I could afford it to begin with.

Just know the CCH is chemical process and not a true CCH. They sure are purty though.
