I got out to shoot the 60 gr Federal cased swag today. Nice day with a light 5-10 mph wind from right to left this time. And as Fred mentions in round threes post it don't take much wind to deflect these little .224's! Had to use LC brass this time as the PMC's I had been using had small cracks on the shoulder and went into the scrap bin. Also these Federal cases were longer then all the rest so got trimmed to .700" instead of .690". Other then the three called flyers these shot pretty dam good!:smile:106250

LOL! You shoot those better than I do with factory loads.

Nice work. Just curious, what rifle are you using?

Did I ask before, scope, iron or Eotech?

16 " DPMS 1:9 twist Carbine HBAR with 4X Scope. And yes thats with a Mil spec trigger hence the flyers. My other AR is a PSA 16" Carbine with a Gieselle 2 stage and 1:7" twist flat top so I could stick a 3x9 on it but it's currently doing HD duty an has a red dot on it. With my old eyes the 4x is needed to do 200 yards when I was younger open sites to 400 yard would have been cake! But not anymore 150 is pushing it with open sites.:-(

I hear that! My 20" hvy has the Gieselle trigger, terrific trigger. It wears a 2-7VXR right now, but considering it's use, I am thinking of 3-9 for 300-400yd shooting. Not so much for the mag but for the finer cross hair a mildot offers. The VXR line are really good scopes, but because of the LED center, the cross hairs get thick much beyond 200yds. One of my carbines wears a VXR1-4, fast like an Eo but upto 4x mag for 200yd shots.

Good to know a stock 16"AR can do that. I tried 200 yards over the weekend with Windham with a red dot and irons. I'm getting to the point where I need glass, too.

Thanks for the field report and inspiration.

When I was still in the service, stationed in Korea one of my extra duties was Airbase protection force. We had to regularly shoot irons to 400 yards an hit man sized targets now this was with M16A2's as we didn't have the M4's only the SP's had them. Best part was I got to shoot the M60 and Mk19! Through out my 24 years I always held expert marksman. Old eyes started to go south about 2 years after retirement.

Thanks for your service, Gunnut. At 200, a 6" target dots the "i" of my front sight. With my 3MOA red dot, it's covered. So, I think a scope is in order.

Try what I put on my 300BLK. 6-20 x40. Brings it right up close and personal. Old eyes are really frustrating.

Thanks. I'm looking at the Nikon P series. Looks like it'd fit the need and budget.

I have a 4 MOA Strikefire on my other AR -with the 2x magnifier I can use it out to 250ish on milk jugs and clays . Past that I need a scope. For any long range targets I get out my Savage hunter .223.

Tried Sunday to do some 200yd shooting but the wind was gusting 15-20. I did give the LCFD a shot on my swaged bullets. It didn't really make the groups smaller but they probably were more round, still right @ 1moa. I did mount a new 3-9 Leup on the 20" hvy, far easier to see smaller targets beyond 200. So we'll try again on a less windy day, if that is even possible in the mountains.

What the heck? You went through all that trouble and didn't shoot some in your "Savage hunter" at a paper target. The way you say it's for long range shooting, that probably would have given a better idea of how well the bullets will shoot.

Since the main reason for swaggin is to feed the AR's-ie bullets usable at AR ranges this is why the AR is the test bed. Yes the Savage Hunter has seen the Swags being used- though the testing in that will be more to the heavier bullets 69 -75 gr variety. Better long range bullets. I just got back a bunch of 22mag cases from a member who was kind enough to get them derimmed for me as my setup was just doing push throughs! Maybe I'll do some targets with them once I get the process down on making good bullets in that weight class. Too most of you guy's I'm a rank amatuer as to swaggin bullets.
