View Full Version : Cast Bullet Accuracy in Rifle, a Few Tips

Char-Gar
05-27-2014, 10:09 AM
Recently, I put together a compilation/recreation of some of my posts on this site dealing with the basics of getting cast bullet in rifles to shoot with accuracy.

This is designed with the newer/novice cast bullet shooter in mind. This basic approach should get him/her on the right path to good groups on the target and avoid the frustration that comes with compound failure. It is by no means comprehensive or intended for the advanced cast bullet shooter. It does cover most of the basics, but there is plenty of learning to do after the basics are mastered.

This paper is 15 pages long, in a Q and A format and in MSWord. If you would like a copy, please send me an PM with an email address and I will sent it to you. I will do this in batches, so it might be a few days before you get it.

This offer has a shelf life of one week, after than it will no longer be available, although those that have it, are free to share it with others. It just an attempt to help others find success quickly in cast bullet shooting.

Take care and good shooting..

Guys, I have received quite a number of requests thus far and I expect many more will be coming. There is a member of this board that is doing an edit on the paper for me and when he is done in a day or so, I will send out the first batch. For some reason others can see our errors much easier than we can as we made them in the first place. I tell my students to always get somebody else to proof read their work, so I am taking my own advice.

Chargar,

Please consider sending this to Texasflyboy, who is a regular here, so that he may co-host it on his website http://www.hensleygibbs.com/

I think that your pearls of wisdom rank with those of Ed Harris, also featured there, and he'd be pleased to give you a niche which could feature your wheelguns and tidbits.

To borrow a well loved concept from another forum we share, I think a fitting label would be "Echoes from Plinker's Hollow"

Dean...Glen Fryxell who understands cast bullets in revolvers as well as anybody has a book on line entitled "Cast Bullets From Ingot to Target that is online for free. There is a sticky link to it some where on this site. I think I understand the basics of getting sixguns to shoot with cast bullet and will do some writing on that, but if there is any difference between my notions and Glen's, go with Glen! He is a gin-u-wine science guy and I am not. Between him and Ed Harris, if they dont' know it, it probably isn't worth knowing.

OK..It took me a while, but I sent out over 200 copies of the document to those who requested. A few bounced back due to full mail boxes etc. I did a copy and paste from your PMs, so I should not have made any keyboard errors. There were a few folks who requested the document, but didn't include an email address. I answered their PM with a request for the email addy.

Many of you included some warm words in your mail and told me some interesting things about what your were doing in cast bullets shooting. I did not respond to each email individually but send the document out in batches. Even though I did not give a personal response, I appreciated the warm words and interesting information.

I will check back in a few days and see if those stray email addresses show up. If they do, I will send out the document.

Those that have the document also have my email address and if I can be of assistance to you, just let me know.

In due time, this document will be a down load on Cast Bullet Engineering site. If you are not familiar with these folks they make and sell bullet molds in Australian. They make some very good molds and I have several. They are the "go to" place for fat 30 caliber bullet molds for the 303 British, Krag and others.

http://www.castbulletengineering.com/

Thanks to the suggestion and assistance of Ed Harris, this and other articles I have written will appear on Hensley and Gibbs site. I am looking forward to setting down my experience, musings and pontifications for others to read. If you have not gone there to read Ed's Black Creek Diary, you really should.

http://www.hensleygibbs.com/

I want to give a heart felt thanks to Mark Daiute a good and true Maine man for the proof read and edit. It was indeed appreciated by me.
