I took my marlin to the range just because it needed to be shot.
Experimented with some plain-base Lee SWC 93 grain.
With 5 grains of Trail Boss I got a series of one-hole groups At 25 yards. Outstanding!
Then I tried the load at 50 yards. 3" spread. Ouch.
Then I tried the same boolit with 7 grains of TB and got 4" groups at 25 yards.
Looks like I've got a 25 yard plinking load--if I ever have a need for a 25 yard plinking load.

It gets better. I also loaded up some Lee 175 gr. flat points sized to .310". I usually shoot .311" 175 grain boolits in the micro grooved marlin, good results but they have to be seated just right to chamber.

The .310s did great as you can see. I love that marlin.

Looks like .311 is the cat's meow for those micro groove barrels. I got a 336 that I'll have to try .311 in.

Works for me, I use the RD 311-165 boolit for now. Have some of the little Lee 93 boolits I'm wanting to try but was hoping to shoot further than 25 yds.
