View Full Version : Is the hulme case feeder still around?

I've had a Hulme case feeder on my Dillon RL550B for 20+ years with no problems. It dutifully drops just about any pistol case base first without fail, without electricity from 380 to 357 to 45 acp. I've never had it drop a case the wrong way. It doesn't hold that may shells in its hopper/pan but it seems to hold more than enough.

It's a weird device that seems to work quite well. As I said, no electricity. It just wobbles back and forth and the shells fall into the tube. I'm surprised it never became more popular. Are they still in business? When I do a Google Hulme, all I come up with is examples of it on Stars.

I've only heard about them in conjunction with Stars.

Didn't know there was linkage available for other brands of loaders.

I should take pictures of it on my RL 550B. It is a precision piece. The linkage is all anodized aluminum and fits perfectly. I've never had to do anything to it. Heck, I've never even cleaned it.

Hi,
I had them on my Stars and they are dead reliable!

Both my stars have them and they are 100% reliable and way simpler than all the other case feeders. Not sure if they are still made. I would go over to the Star forum and ask around.

I don't understand why this design isn't more common. It's far less expensive and complicated to make than the current variety of case feeders. I mean mine works with 380 through 38/357 through .45 auto.... no shell plates, no change overs....

Hi,
One of mine was a homemade copy and it worked as good as an original! Easy design and well within the capabilitys of a home machinist!

If you have had a case feeder on a 550 for 20+ years and it has always worked you need to post photos. There are still people who can't get the Dillon case feeders to work right on the 550 and they have only made them for a few years.

I would really like to see that design if it is that simple and reliable.

I would like to see multiple pics also. I have one on my .45 ACP Star. I could use one on my .38 Special Star and 550B Dillon. On the .45 my is not 100% would be more like 99.6%.

A little more research..... I have a Hulme case feeder with a Freeloader funnel. The funnel does away with the tubes and aligns the cases in a short tube to be feed into the Hulme. It is the Freeloader that puts a case inverted into the tube every once in a while. The Hulme works fine.
A Google search came up with nothing for the Hulme or Freeloader.

Not me but there are some on the star reloader forum for sale. I think $100 each shipped

Would it be possible for you to make up a diagram of the unit and how it is fitted to the Dillon 550B. I have some contacts with a CNC shop and might be able to get one or more built.

This thread is somewhat misleading? The Hume Loader and Freeloader funnel really have more in common with Lee's Case Collator and case feeder than a modern electric case feeder and collator.

Although, it does appear that Dillion uses a similar "Triangle" to activate it's the case slide?

Hi,
Yep, the free loader is an addition to the Hulme Case feeder to my mind?

Two different animals put together and compliment each other very well!

You can even make the free loader from a bowl, a plastic funnel and a straight tube all glued together!

Admittedly I had NO idea they would work on a Dillon 550???

I'd like to see pics of that myself (or a vid!)
