I am thinking about doing the pawnshop crawl today, and was wondering what is the best lever gun for optics. I am looking for a 357 and want to put a red dot on one.

Thanks,

Crabo

marlin or a angle eject win are about your only choises. Both are decent guns.

Hi Crabo
I have two Marlin 1894's, one .357, one .44mag. They're both come drilled and tapped for scope mounts. I have scopes on both and never have had any problems. You can find a mount for them at www.midwayusa.com or www.cheaperthandirt.com.

Puma has announced a new lever action for this year:

You can buy a scout mount for a pre angle eject model but I would not use it on a pre 64 as you do need to drill and tap. I saw one at the local Gander Mountain fixed up that way that their gunsmith did with a red dot on it and it was pretty slick. I still prefer a peep sight myself.

I had an aimpoint on my 357CB for a while and it was a lot of fun bouncing cans as fast as I could get the dot on them.Got a leupold 2x7 on it now and quite accurate.Glad I got it when I did.Hard to get one in some places like Indiana where they are legal to hunt with now and people are seeing how much fun they are.

Just put the sight forward of the action (scout scope).

Not 357 but Savage 99s and 357 Marlins are easily scoped in the normal way.

Guess I may be prejudiced; if it ain't got Marlin stamped on it I'm not interested in owning it.
