After trying to find a cheap stock for a Old Stevens Model 94 12ga I gave up. I did find a walnut 2x4 rough cut that was 34 inches long. Here is how it turned out.1058081058091058101058111058121058131058141058 15105816105817

Nice work! Before this I thought 2x4 stocks only came on Chinese Mosin-Nagants, no wait those are made from old pallets.

i really like it when shooter here take on a project like your stock. our own labor is free and we can take our time. thanks for showing us what you did. i am almost done with a muzzle loader i built from spare parts and a 19 dollar piece of cherry i got at the lumber yard. i incourage others to try their hand at this sort of thing. it can be rewarding.

My 2x4 stock still looks like a 2x4 duck taped to a handi rifle....

Once again thank you everyone for your kind words. My wife likes it when I start a project like this one. It keeps me out of her way! She is always there to encourage me, saying you can do it. I surprised myself on this one.

Nice job making a "sows ear" into a silk purse! Lot of rasping went into it I`ll wager. I rescued a birdseye maple 2x4 from a large pallet once, it still rests up in the rafters waiting on me.Robert

Cut it to size file it to fit and finish it to desired sheen! Make do with what's on hand or go without. Looks great I have some nice old barn planks and a 22 with a broken stock, mmmmmm?

It is really amazing at times the skills I see on the net. Makes me really envious. Not simply the ability but the patience needed for such a project.

This is what it is all about, the pioneers did,nt discard a Gun if the stock got damaged, they went ahead and fixed it or made a new one.Well done sir.

Very, Very well done, Sir!
You inspire me and others to consider tackling the job ourselves, rather than relying on the "marketplace"-
Taking a bit of risk, carefully, can and often does reap great rewards-
Again, well done-
I've got two exhibition grade Missouri walnut blanks hidden away in the gunroom- think they're dry enough after 15 yrs?

Hey guys give it a try! Was not as bad to do as I thought. I just took my time and worked a little on it each day. Checkering the forearm and stock was the hard part. [smilie=f:

very nice job and a big improvement over original! Because of limited funds I have glued a whole bunch of wood together to make stocks to work on. It can be done, but makes you appreciate a nice solid piece of wood all the more when you get your handa on one. I am still waiting on a stump thats been gifted to me to arrive then we will have solid wood a few years from now.

Howdy neighbor! When I was in boy scouts the leader handed me a piece of wood and said carve out a spoon. When I asked how he said to cut out the part that doesn't look like a spoon.

Words to live by.

My Loving Wife says that I can look at a piece of wood and see that there is something inside just dying to get out. I use to work on a lot of furniture for people. This was my frist try at a stock. I just could not let that old Model 94 Stevens die just yet.

That looks great... I am currently trying to strip and refinish a stock from a 94 series p I got in a trade that was butt ugly After years of doing furniture repair work I found the DAD'S brand of stripper to work the best. If not careful some of the strippers like (BIX) will burn the wood leaving stains that are almost impossiable to get out. I never had that problem with the dad's brand

Someone mentioned silk purses and sows ears earlier and my take on that old proverb is that while you may not be able to make a silk purse out of a sows ear, you can make a very fine pigskin wallet and that stocking job is a very fine pigskin wallet indeed.

I really like to see these old warriors being rescued and put back into service.
