How do you figure a load for something like this?
My bullets came out to around 179 t0 180 grains. My bullet mould calls for 174,to be cast????

Happens to everyone. Very few if any mold will cast exactly on weight. It's VERY dependent on alloy.
Does your manual have data for a 180g boolit? If so, use it. If not, use the 170g data and stay a grain or two away from max. ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, work up your loads from the bottom and NEVER take load data you read on the internet for fact. Trust but VERIFY.
If you don't have 180g data, why not contact the manufacturer of the powder you intend to use and ask? I know the guys at Accurate Arms are very helpful and respond quickly to requests such as these.

You are right on that about not being what it say the mould is to be.I know alloy has alot to do with the weight.I just do like you stated work the load up or go with the one higher if there is data.

Yep my alloy in the Lee 170gr comes out to about 180grs ! Just start at the starting load for the 170 gr and work up. My load for hunting is 28 gr H4895.

I find the jacketed bullet data that is closest to my cast bullet and go from there.

for example: I have a 30-06 I shoot a 225gr cast out of. I started with 220g and 200gr jacketed data and crossed it with some cast bullet data from Lyman's book.

Willyp-you are using cast load data for your cast boolits right? Cast powders are a little faster than for j-words. I have found that for the same powder, j-word loads will usually be below the max for boolits given the difference in weight (~5%). Don't linearly interpolate between points as they hit maximums, they usually spike in pressure when max's are hit.
+1 what Blammer said, you can never have too many load books (and Pet Loads). Lyman is good too.

I'm using the same load as Gunnut for 180gr cast boolit thats sposed to be 173gr.

The only molds I have that are close to advertised weight are NOE. All the rest come out heavier.

Yep and that load is faster then Factory 170 grs in my 336 20"!
