Title says it all. I am having to give up shoulder fired weapons, at least anything over a 38 wadcutter load, due to C6 problems. Already have C4/5 fused. X rays confirm it, so no more shoulder fired hunting rifles unless I want surgery really quick and possible nerve damage to left arm.

So, what are my options on a hunting pistol, using BH209?
Ranges are <100 yards. Deer are smaller does.

The CVA and the Traditions are the ones I'd look at. To me the CVA looks like a better built gun but I haven't shot either. Sure wish they came in smaller calibers rather than just .50.

lefty red, why not build one. it would be a fun project. 1/18 twist .45 barrel. shoot a 400 to 500 grain paperpatch bullet. the easiest way is get a used H and R 12 gauge and have smokless muzzleloaders inc. but a 12 to 16 inch douglas barrel on it with scope mounts. they also build muzzle loader barrels for thompson contender pistols. on the H and R it would be easy to build a pistol grip for it and the contenders have them ready made. they shoot blackhorn 209 but also relaoder 7 and such. uses a shot gun primer nipple. SMI does a real good job. a pistol like that and a 400 grain .45 paperpatched bullet and reloader 7 and a scope would take you out of the handicapped area and shoot better than most long barrel guns. it sounds like a real fun project, go for it. im sorry to hear your injury is still nagging at you. during gardening time now my west nile is acting up up im too stuborn to not keep going. let us know what you do in this area.

this is a tricky subject, be careful that you don't end up with a short barreled rifle or shotgun that you could do time for making. instead of an H&R I would recommend one of the cva flint or percussion kits or the cva inline pistosl or a t/c contender or encore. 50 cal rifle barrels are still available, used, for the contender and new for the encore. they just need to be cut down. also could do the conversion of a 45-70 to 45 bp. good luck with your spine problems, been there and done that. xp

I think I am going to go for the CVA Pistol. When I originally had the first fuse done, I researched it and really liked it.
Truely, I like the Lyman Great Plains pistol. Just don't want to have to use sub or caps.

Not Modern and 209 primed, but a TC Scout Pistola may meet your needs also.

Wish I could finda a Scout 45 Caliber barrel. They are only slightly harder to find than the pistola itself.

The Optima seems to be the best choice of what is currently available

If you want to shoot black or 777 a underhammer would be a good choice.

wow, now a underhammer pistol. if you used a magspark nipple you could use blackhorn 209 powder. a .45 in 1/18 to 1/20 twist. you could shoot paperpatch and have it scope mounted. it would be the ultimate hunting gun.

Something like this:

Would build up into a very interesting pistol! Were it me, I would go with a 35 to 40 caliber barrel and like johnson1942 says, paper patched boolits, sealed ignition, and blackhorn 209. That would be some kind of neat trick - deadly at very long range and minimal recoil.

Do check out the old T/C Scout pistol. Built like a tank. Originally they came in .45, .50, & .54. Can mount a scope or red dot. Packs a mighty punch if you stoke it up or anything down to plinkers. You can still find them on the market. I'm sure you would be happy with one.

Here's a t/c scout if your not familiar with them. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=417935355 I wouldn't pay that much for one, but it is NIB.
