I have a shooting grade colt 2nd gen 1st m dragoon.cap n ball.
chamber mouths are .451,but get this..
bore dia. is .442, groove diameter is .468!
deep ass rifling.
Now the question what to do?

I am thinking reaming the cylinder throats to take a .480 ball, reaming .473/.475"

or, take a .457 mold and put a 15/32" ball end mill cutter into each half, thus making a .469 round ball mold, and reaming the cylinder throats to .466"

or leave it alone, which I`m not going to do:Fire:

certainly interesting project.

Have you tried an ox-yoke felt patch behind a soft 0.457"+ ball in it? A good healthy charge should slug up the ball.

............Percussion revolters don't have cylinder throats :-) There 'might' be enough meat to partially counterbore the chamber's to take a larger ball.
