With the possibilites of A gun grabber going in office early next year i am looking into a new revolver. I have 3 glocks but i like the long term reliability of the revolver. I also own a colt king cobra 357(4 inch) and a ruger redhAWK44 MAG(71/2) .I cast for both.I dont like to shoot my colt to much(warm loads) but the ruger is just to big to carry while out messin around in the woods.help me make up my mind between S&w 686 - ruger sp101 both 4 inch or a ruger redhawk 51/2 inch 44 mag. Recoil is not that big of factor since i dont run that many full throttle loads

I have a 5'' 629 Classic that works well for packing along & light plinking loads are lots of fun!! Can also be had with a 4" barrel.

My advice is you can't go wrong with a S&W.

I've had more than a few and the 357's have all been good. Had two of the 686 models, one 4" the other 6". Both shot good enough I ended up using them in PPC competition and selling my custom gun.

Of course, if you want a really good gun get one of the "N" frames chambered for a 45 cartridge, ACP or LC - your choice, both are sweet.

You should consider the S&W 4" Model 27 N-frames. These are my favorite .357s ! :) :)

Don't forget the Model 28's. They're really/actually M27's without the frills and they came in two barrel lengths....4 and 6. I've used both for target and they do a good job. They also travel under a different name..."Highway Patrolman". Prices for them were always less than the M-27's. No 8 &3/8 barrel length was available.

GLL,

Mine's a 5" blued one with a bit of holster wear. Great revolvers!

I own a S & W 586, it shoot accurately right out of the box. Reliability that is a toss up with me, I have never had a problem my Kimbers.

I do shoot 38 special and +Ps as well as 357 mags in my 586. Never had a feeding problem or a jam with it.

Wow. Quite an option range there. Depends on your use, finances, and personal size really. And if you want to look at this as a tool or be a slave to it and baby it like a firearm. I'd get the Redhawk if hunting with it was ever meant to be an option. But I have several 44s already.

But for an open carry (wear) gun, it really depends on how much of you there is and how active you are as to how much gun you can strap on. Plus you can only shoot a grip so small comfortably. We are not talking concealed carry.

For me, I wear a 4" GP100 now. Light enough not to pull my pants down so it's always there. Slides in a coat pocket if it's that time of year or my fishin vest. Heavy enough to shoot comfortably with that caliber for extended secessions. Powerful enough with 180 grain pills that you don't have to push the sound barrier to hurt your ears without hearing protection. Durable and cheap enough that I don't have to worry about banging it around. Hey, it's a Ruger.

Used ones that have been seldom shot and look brand new can be had for @ $300. And the best thing, it doesn't drain my lead supply like blammin with a 44 does. It ain't just the weight of the gun, but the weight of the spare ammo that makes this choice or breaks it. A gun with without spare ammo might as well be left in the drawer.

I really think you should get a 629 Mountain Gun .44 Mag - [smilie=1:

Really nice to carry, mine are very accurate, nice to shoot.

I generally go to four or five gun shows A year. I never have seen a new or used mountain gun. I would take a 44 or a 45 if i could find one . scarce as hens teeth

If you have a gun dealer that will order for you, Gunbroker has some
good deals going on.
