Hi guys, I'm loading up a bunch of ammo to take to the Linebaugh shoot next week and used up all of my 2400 loading 44 AutoMag.
I still have to load 45Colt, 475 , 500JRH, and 500 S&W.
I drove all over town and could not find any 2400. I did find a good supply of Alliant 410. Looking at some burn rate charts put it right under 2400, or just under 4198.
I looked on Alliant's webpage for 410 shotshell load data and it had some 2400 and 410 loads listed next to each other with the 410 powder charge being about 1 grain less than 2400.
I'm not looking to load any max loads, just some heavy stuff around 1000-1250fps.

Does anyone have any experience with 410?
Does it need a case full? Run at high pressures? Or can it be used for low pressure loads and partial case of powder?

TIA

I really want to help out with this, because I thought I had 410 powder to work up as well. I got all set up to reload some 45 colt, and then discovered that I only have 4100 powder which is not the same thing. Same thing happened to me last weekend, I had a coconut pie almost made when I discovered that I was out of coconut. Anyway, I googled it and it sent me back to this website, where some people had tried it out as a 2400 replacement. Seems like they were getting good results, but did have some manufacturer concerns listed about cold-weather issues. I'm sorry I can't do any more than that for you now, because you do a lot for all of us here. I'd love to hear about how that event goes next week!

Ive only tried it in 460 s&w magnum, using 2400 starting charges. Worked as well as 2400 for me in that gun that day (it was about 55 degrees).

I only tried about 15 rounds but they all shot well with no pressure signs or inconsistency.

I was shooting a 300 gr gas checked boolit with around 28 gr behind it. There was probably 1/4" of room between the base of boolit and powder, maybe more. Used standard large rifle primers

Im planning to test it more since i cant resupply on 2400 either and i need some to keep around for...pretty much everything

To answer, i DO think it works ok with lower pressure partial case loads. But the comment was correct that alliant techs are quoted to say that it is not recommended for use in any mettalic cartridge

I've used Alliant 410 in Ruger 45 Colt and 454 Casull. 410 loaded nearly the same for me as 2400 but I can't remember if it gave a bit higher velocity or a bit lower velocity for the same charge weight as 2400. I think it was a bit slower however it did work well for mid to warm loads as what I typically use 2400.
